Got my licence in the mail this morning, so I decided to go shopping! First up, I cruised on over to Island Outfitters in victoria and bought a GSG1911, but that's not why I'm in this section... After finishing up there, I drove out to Pullen's Gunsmithing and lo and behold, this was waiting for me

Russian refurb, $200. Haven't shot it yet, but I'll be heading to the range tomorrow. I've also ordered a Chinese model from marstar, but I didn't wanna wait! So, once it comes, I'll take both out to compare and then either sell the one I don't like, or replace its stock with something a little different like the Dragunov style fiberforce stock from ATI

The Choate Dragunov stock is better. The ATI one is crappy. They sell for about $39 in the US if that tells you anything. The Choate is worth paying for.

Nice gun! I too have a Russian refurb and a Chinese one on the way from Marstar.

so I took my new toy to the range today and put about 60 rounds of corrosive milsurp through it, she's a nail driver, I like it a lot! Not a lot of kick, but she makes a lot of noise! Met a fella at the range who had one as well, and gave me some advice about sighting it in, and my accuracy went up considerably. I was, admittedly only shooting at 25yds, I wasn't striving for crazy accuracy, I just wanted to get a feel for it. I'm still getting a second one from Marstar, and I'm anxious to try out a pistol gripped stock

in related news... thank goodness for youtube, or I'd've been completely up a creek when it came to cleaning it...

Poor guy Got the gun disease. Now you will be broke credit cards max. Keep buying guns:D Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new toys

Forgot to mention I brought my video cameras and shot an hour or so of footage, I'll be putting it together tomorrow and posting it on my youtube channel, I'll link to it here

I notice in your signature it says you had to do interviews?

Is that for restricted or something? I didn't have to do interviews, but I only got a PAL. I'm going for my RPAL soon.

Here's mine with the Choate Dragunov stock. I eventually plan to scope it, as this is my bubba SKS.

My Chinese Type 56 will be my good one, with no mods, and I plan to get another Russian with a laminate stock which I hope will have less Cosmoline in it.

yeah I got my RPAL, I'm not interested in hunting so I wanted to have all my options available to me. I've already exercised my right and bought a .22 pistol! Anyway I like the look of your SKS, does it just drop right into the stock? I've heard that some modification is required to most aftermarket stocks

I'm not familiar with that range, where's it at?

It just drops in, unless you want to keep the bayonete. Then you have to cut your own bayonete channel. It's easy to do.

The modifications you're referring to are for the ATI stock, because they are cheap junk. The Choate has no issues. It's a really tight fit, but that's good.

Its a secret :). Lol its out past metchosen by rocky point DND ammo depot. Need to be with a member to go out there on a day pass (which is only $3)

where can I buy a choate stock? I tried looking but all I could find was US retailers

I got mine used from the EE.

You could try this:

http://www.sksman.com/acces/stocks2.php. I'm not sure if he ships to Canada.

I think I saw another dealer that claimed to sell the full line of Choate Tool products, but I can't remember who it was now... I'll try to remember.

I'll just add possible links as I find them... Canadian only...

so I took my SKS out again today along with my other new acquisition, a Ruger 10/22, had a great time with both but I can truly say I have a newfound respect for my SKS. I decided to try my hand at some medium long range shooting and threw some lead at the hill downrange at 225yds, I'm not gonna say that I'm the next Carlos Hathcock or anything, but I was hitting within 12-18" of my target with open sights from a standing position, so I was pretty pleased! Can't wait until my chinese surplus rifle and new stock/scope kit come so I can see how precise I can get!

Those were my first 2 rifles as well... a Chinese SKS from Marstar and a 10/22. I put the Tapco stock on my SKS right away and love it. Then a long list of other upgrades to tick off the elitists. I love that gun, my wife paid the $75 for it as a fathers day present from she and my daughter so its never going anywhere.

My 10/22 got the nomad kit and a red dot. Its a really cool looking gun thats still very accurate and extremely fun to shoot. Im very happy with these 2 as my first choices. I managed to acquire a Ruger mini-30 in a trade that was well weighted to my side last week so I'm slowly building a bit of a collection. Next on the list is a CZ858 with the BT magwell adapter... but thats a ways down the road. For now my SKS and 10/22 are keeping me VERY well entertained.
