They told me the same thing when I tried to get a 10FP with the choate stock...
'Found one elsewhere....

I checked the Savage web site and there's no mention of the rifle being "discontinued"

Me thinks that WS's way of saying "We" have discontinued carrying the item.

Wholesale is off my list of dealers to call. They apparently don't have stock of just about anything you ask for period!

that's the standard response when 1) they don't have it in stock
2) have no idea when it's coming in) 3) it's not on their computer) 4) want to sell you something else- i had the same response when i tried to get some HORNADY ONE SHOT( it's an aerosol resizing lube) - higgenson sells the stuff no sweat

same problem

I've had nothing but problems with them as well.

It seems that most of the sales people I've talked too are either too lazy to do some looking around or they have no clue what you're talking about.

Don't even bother using the Savage codes like VSS or BV or anything like that they just get confused and then say its discontinued.

At least that's been my experience so far.

WSS's computer software is anything but user friendly, read archaic and inaccurate most of the time, not the sales guys fault the store won't spend the $ for a better system. Have heard they will be upgrading in the near future but for now thats all they have to work with, hell they haven't even been able to get a new catalog out for almost 2 yrs. Also being chronically short staffed isn't helping any of the situations.

Bear in mind that WSS now keeps something like a million items in stock and that not every employee has a few hours a day to become an expert on just one of those items like you do, even though customers seem to expect them to.

You are the buyer. Find out if Savage is still making it and what their manufacter's part number for that item is. Find out - from Savage - whether or not you can buy that through your dealer. If you can, call Wholesale. With all the information.

caveat emptor

Take some responsibility.

Ahh. You really need to apply for a job there. I'm sure that your extensive knowledge of Savage codes and work ethic will turn them around in no time.

You must be counting primers, bullets and fish hooks individually. A million items? No wonder they can't afford to make a catalogue, it would be three feet thick and Nine feet tall.

Come on now...

"Ahh. You really need to apply for a job there. I'm sure that your extensive knowledge of Savage codes and work ethic will turn them around in no time."

This guy must work for WSS. Anyone can learn the codes just look at the Savage website.

But seriously, how hard should it be to know what you have in stock.

Don't they do inventory? And being that they deal with firearms shouldn't they, by law, have to know what they do and do not have in the store? What if someone broke in and swiped a bunch of rifles... they'd never know what was gone.

Big difference between "not having it in stock" and "not available anymore" If Savage doesn't have it on their website and WSS's system says 0 in stock then a reasonable guess would be that it isn't available anymore. Like was said earlier, try calling with the manufacturers part # and give the poor bugger on the other end of the phone who is juggling your call with 3 people at the counter some info to work with. JMHO

Give me a break ! All it takes is some motivation and a bit of knowledge about the layout of the catalog and the computer inventory system. If they don't have the ability to ask the customer the right questions, reference the catalog, get an item number, confirm with the customer and look it up on the computer, then WTF are they doing behind the gun counter ? I am just as frustrated with 'most' of the "experts:onCrack:" at WSS.

When I go to WSS, I come with the catalog page # and/or item number before I even consider talking with most (but not all) guys behind the gun counter. More often than not I am pointing out the primers, bullets, etc on the shelves that they insist are not in stock :slap:! For the most part, I deal with only one or two guys that actually want to help, otherwise, I'll come back another time or just go to P&D!
