just called wholesale sports to order a 10fp macmillian

There a plenty of friendly and knowledgeable staff at Wholesale.

However, they need a much more accurate inventory system when it comes to their firearms.

On more than one occassion "our inventory shows one in Edmonton" has turned into "nope, nothin' there".

Kinda scary...

You must be counting primers, bullets and fish hooks individually. A million items? No wonder they can't afford to make a catalogue, it would be three feet thick and Nine feet tall.

Take a look at the last (2005) catalog. Part numbers are in the 250,000's in the hunting catalog alone, not including fishing.

And that was from two years ago.

You think WSS doesn't have at least a million items in inventory? You are naive at best.

This guy must work for WSS. Anyone can learn the codes just look at the Savage website.

Any time anyone stands up for a store that gets bashed in this forum, they must work there. Like I said: Go get a job there. I am sure that with your knowledge of firearms and customer service skills will result in nothing but kudos on this forum immediately. Let me know when you get hired, because I will want to come in and talk to you about Portland rifles.

All it takes is some motivation and a bit of knowledge about the layout of the catalog and the computer inventory system.

You and castorpollux should go in to WSS and apply for jobs at the same time. You complement each other and could orally gratify one another. I'm sure that with both of your talents you could turn things around jig time there and nothing but happy comments would ever be heard of about WSS again.

The 10FP McMillan (without det mag) isn't carried on by the store anymore, the 10FCP McMillan(with det mag) is on back order but I know for a fact that the Edmonton store sold 2 of those, a while back..

Here's the proof & I thought I'd add the new HS prec w/mag..

I live in edmonton, and i have alot better luck ordering items in from the Calgary mailorder service then dealing with the edmonton gun counter. they never seem to have certain items in stock that are listed in the catalogue. and when you order them through the edmonton store it ends up being your job to follow up on the order. The Calgary dealers ship direct to my mailbox toot sweet and no headaches.

Part numbers are like street addresses, there are gaps between those numbers, sometimes very large ones. My street address is 5225 but there are not 5225 houses on this street. Likewise in the catalogue they may list list item# 84431 federal small rifle match primers in 1000 lot bricks and have 1000 bricks of them = 1,000,000 primers but is considered 1 item, last time I was in they didn't have any anyway.

On another note the new edmonton store is a really nice store, except the washrooms were duscustingly filthy, so I went outside to have a piss.

I havn't dealt with WSS a whole lot, but I have worked in retail inventory and buying before. A company needs to have a good idea of their inventory for financial/tax purposes, that is why many stores do inventory every 6 months. It does also make sense that the government would hold them to a higher standard for their firearms inventory.

This said WSS, by the sounds of it, should have a better hold on their inventory.

well i have tried some options and i can order one of these 10fcp's up but easily looking at a few months and my local shop wants somewhere over 1200 plus taxes....

soo i think i am going to pick up a 700P 308 26" barrel, got to handle one at the shop and its pretty sweet rig, feels good in the hand, feels solid quite a bit more then the other savages i have handled and at 999+onetax that easliy leaves $300+ to get it tuned up. plus i really like the feel of the stock, i have big hands and seems to fit it good

i have a 10x 3200 that i picked up used on the way and don't wanna wait a few months for a savage. plus i don't mind paying out a bit more to build up a remmy

thoughts?

Well I consider myself to be a Remington fan and was actually trying to decide between the 700P and the LTR awhile ago. That all changed when I saw the new Savage 10FCP....I am now going to pick one up in the HS stock. I like the Mac stock but want a shorter barrel (24") so the HS fits the bill, and it's cheeper from my understanding.

The problem is getting one of these guns, nobody seems to have one. WSS has one coming in but nobody knows when that'll arrive.

I am trying very hard to resist the temptation to go ahead and buy a LTR but I may soon give in if the Savage doesn't hurry.

The 700P is a fine rifle from what I hear, but my interest is now in a shorter barrel (24 or less) and the LTR has that.

Congrats on your new purchase, it sounds like you found a gun that fits you. Don't forget to post a range report ;)

You probably won't get any help from the whiners, just moaning and groaning..

QUOTE]

It seems to be a pattern. Poster trys to find something at WSS that WSS either does not have, or maybe has but can not find. Those who are in a position to help poster often do:D but many just take it as an oportunity to whine.

To those whiners and goaners and moaners I say, if wss does not meet your needs take your business somwhere else. It is not the salesman's job to know each and every item in stock and every delivery date of the numerous items that may be on order or back order and to know every model number or flavor of the month that fuels your frustrated desires. Model numbers and flavor of the month change more frequently that many gunnutz change their shorts, and because these salemen are actually employed they do not have time to surf for all the toys that keep you amused. wss has a very large inventory of so much stuff that it would be difficult to assign a number and it would be reasonable to expect that some of their flavors would sell out and I know you whiners do not handle disapointment well, so go and buy what wss does not have somewhere else. That is if there is somewhere else? In spite of all you moaners and whiners, wss's gun counter seems to be crowded all day and every day and there are actual customers who are really pleased at what is in stock.

I long for the old days before wss and their like. I long for the small gun shop that actually had a smith that worked there. Maybe our needs or wants were more simple and our needs were not so much influenced by the internet and gun mags. It is the want for each and every brand and model and flavor and the attempt to meet this need that has created stores like wss. The good old days are not comming back. I think I have got over it and in any event will live with it. Whiners, I really don't give a #### if wss did not have what you wanted, and the salesman was not as smart as you!

These salemen are actually employed they do not have time to surf for all the toys that keep you amused.

Actually, I'm one of the few at WSS that regularly check availability on LR tactical stuff & pass it on to those who it may concern on gunnutz & the LR community..

Thanks for explaining all of this to the moaners & whiners but they don't seem to listen much but its all about the effort.

Airborn, I think most of the guys on here appreciate your help with getting the information that's otherwise difficult to find. For me, your help finding the item numbers for the new Savages (10FCP) awhile back certainly made my call to WSS alot easier and smoother when I ordered it.

I imagine I would still be looking......

Keep the info coming!

No store will stock much of what the typical gunnut is going to be after, they need to make consistant, steady sales... not many (certainly in the precision rifle set) of the rifles that I looked at have the same production numbers as the typical hunting rufle. I just phone around till I find one, and I certainly do not begrudge any dealers... well actuall ythere is one, but they are a bunch of outright liers and such. (Not WSS)
