I just completed my first AR-15 build.
All parts were either purchased on the EE or from one of CGN's site sponsors.
It took a lot of patience but I finally pulled it off.

The build starts with a Noveske N4 lower.
CMT lower parts kit.
KNS anti rotation pins.
Phase 5 Tactical Extended Bolt Release V2.
Magpul Aluminum Trigger Guard.
Magpul Miad Grip.
Magpul UBR buttstock.
Noveske upper receiver.
CMT HP/MP full auto BCG
Noveske Afghan stainless medium contour barrel.
Noveske NSR 13.5" Handguard
JP compensator which will be replaced with a Noveske KX5 once one becomes available.
Noveske marked BCM gunfighter charging handle.
CMT is a supplier to Noveske.

I ran 150 rounds of various ammo through it last night without a hitch.
Ammo used was:
Norinco yellow box (CJ 95 non corrosive)
Hornady 55gr FMJ 3150fps handloads
69gr SMK's 2,400fps handloads.

I shot (2) 1" 5 shot groups (69gr SMK's 50Y indoor) off a front bag using the EOtech which I thought was impressive considering my tired eyes.

I will be adding a set of Noveske marked Troy BUIS.
I will temporarily adding a Noveske NSR bipod adapter and a 3-9 scope for accuracy testing.

Why a kx5?
Its meant for shorter barrels and to go inside the rail.

Shooting this rifle indoors with the JP brake provides quite a concussion and large flash signature.
I'm guessing that it would be the same with a Surefire brake.
I want something that will push the blast foreward.
I also want something that will allow the rail to be removed with the muzzle device in place.
It will be pinned and welded so that it can go to the USA with me to comply with the 16" minimum length.

Any other suggestions will be welcome.

Clean looking rifle!
Most peoples firsr build have a bunch of stupid crap hanging off them, you did a great good with quality parts.

Are you looking for the same advice you asked on M4Carbine?

Nice AR by the way.
That would be helpful.
I am hoping someone will reply that Noveske supplies an H or H2 or H3 with their Afghan builds.
Only time will tell.
Maybe an H or H2 is the answer?
I guess I should just buy a couple and try them out.

Yeah, like someone already told you on M4C, I would try out a Heavy or H2 buffer. Didn't know Questar had H2's in stock tho, I got a Colt H2 from Brownells two weeks ago. It did smooth out the action over the H I was already using.

Yes but I have no idea what length barrel or gas system they are using either.
The Noveske is a 14.5" barrel with mid length gas unlike most 14.5" barrels which have carbine length gas systems.
The 18" Stag with rifle length gas is also said to be tricky using an adjustable stock length buffer tube.

I made this thread more for just showing my pride in what I put together but I'll gladly take advice on the subject here.

Hey OneShot Tactical has some KX3 in stock in case you want one of those.

Edit... nevermind, you want it to fit under the handguard.

I've read about people running middy 14.5' and H even H2 without any problems... I believe an H3 ran too but not reliably on less powerful ammo.

Nicely done. I have the Phase 5 Tactical Extended Bolt Release V2 on both of my PWS rifles and love it.
Although it isn't a high end brand like the Noveske I had an Allen Gunworks linear comp on my PWS 12 inch for a while and it was very good at pushing the concussion away from the shooting line. Best part was that it only cost $60 new. I've replaced it with a PWS triad since then which is also pretty comfortable to shoot. I had a Rainier Arms mini comp on it for a while and it was way too obnoxious.

Why are you considering changing your buffer? Is it cyclinging a little harshly? Or do you just think it should be a little smoother?

Here's my build, Spikes upper, Daniel Defense BCG, 18 inch ATRS heavy stainless with integrated brake (wish it was a medium contour), Samson Evolution 15 inch handguard, Stag lower with Ergo grip and CAA tactical sniper stock, and a Burris fastfire 2-7 with E1 reticle (which may get swapped out). I just need to decide if I'm going to replace the trigger or leave it stock, the stock Stag trigger is actually pretty good so I'm not in a big hurry to replace it.
It is so smooth and it barely moves when you fire so followup shots are super fast and accurate. That barrel seems to like every type of ammo I've tried so far. 7 different factory loads and pretty much all under 2moa with a couple almost getting 1moa. I think with handloads it will be sub moa. I'm concentrating on load development for my HK first though.

I keep seeing vids of really flat shooting AR's using the same brake as I am.
I feel that the buffer is hammering into the rear of the rifle even with my minimum power factor loads.
I'm pretty confident that Noveske barrels are not overgassed so I'll see where this goes.

What was your all-in cost on this build?

I'm right around $2,600 and that's with a few deals I found here and there.
Once the Noveske marked Troy BUIS are added I'll be in for around $2,900.

I overpaid a little on the complete lower since I bought it during the panic but I knew that going in.
It has taken 10 months to find a stripped upper to complete the build.
I could have used a Vltor MUR upper since Noveske also uses those but I'm not a fan of the huge Vltor marking on the right side of the upper.
