With hunting seasons drawing near and all the hype for upcoming waterfowl I have been just chomping at the bit to get out with my new bird dog. So when I saw pigeons were flocking to our greenfeed field I couldn't help it. This morning before work max and I grabbed a mojo and some shells and setup on the edge of the greenfeed to see if we could get lucky and pull in some pigeons.
I was amazed to find the pigeons extremely willing to come to the mojo and had some of the most amazing decoyed birds right in my lap.
With max being not even a year old and me being a new dog owner and trainer, she blew me away with her retrieving skills . One volley she went back and forth retrieving 3 birds back to back like a pro. Plenty of things to work on with her but overall I couldn't be happier.

Your dog is beautiful. Very handsome fellow.

Retrieving down birds seems to be instinctive in the breed. They don't need a lot of teaching to go after the bird and get it.

It's more of a problem to teach them to hand it over, or drop it at your feet.

Pigeons are excellent table fare and on most days, decoy better than waterfowl. Once the waterfowl season ends, I spend the rest of the winter hunting pigeons. Such fun and guaranteed action
