Just did the Black Badge course "AMAZING"

I now wish I'd gotten my R-PAL at the same time as my PAL, I never thought I'd want a handgun but these types of competitions were something I didnt know about.

I feel as though its foolish to ask, but do I need my own firearm for this course?

Probably can use someone elses, like a buddy who takes course with you and lends you one, but I wouldn't recommend that, as I believe it's best to go into this at least knowing your gun somewhat. Maybe best to get into pistol shooting first and then take this course.. What gun to buy ? Well that's a whole new thread that'll make your head spin... lots to know before buying. If you want to get into ipsc shooting, you need to go to an event or two or three and see what's going on, what guns seems to be the most common, what division you'd like to be in, etc...
Lots to know about the sport before moving forward.
Talk to someone you know doing this, or find out thru your club and go from there.

What did you focus on the most in your qualifier? I just really want to do it safely and get that signature for now and not worry about speed and score so much, that will all come in time.

Cheers,
Evan

Finger off the trigger when not aiming at a target or doing any manipulations like clearing a malfunction.

Watch your 90's, it's easy to forget in the heat of the moment and not ALWAYS easy to figure out where 90 even is.

If in doubt about ANYTHING make sure to ask questions on the walk through!

Glad to here you had fun! I wished all new handgun shooters would take BB, even if they have no desire to compete.

I'm a very new handgun shooter, dont know how much I want to compete or if i even will when i get my Black Badge (Sept 28/29) but
I figured as a new shooter it could be fun and I could learn lots!

Still need alot more practice before the course.. having troubles hitting the targets at 25 yards.. just been keeping up dry practice and see where if im ready by the end of sept

Alex is great to work with. There is a reason some of us hang out like groupies with him. Glad you had a good time. We'll see you next weekend.

Corey, did you just admit to being an Alex groupie? f:P:

"quote" I wished all new handgun shooters would take BB, even if they have no desire to compete. I agree 100%

thanks, gives me some comfort in the matter hah, my goal is to be able to do it by the course, should help lots

You'll be fine. You will be shooting mostly at 7, 10 & 15 meters. Anything longer than that and you are shooting from a knee or shooting prone. Does your range allow you to adjust the distance of your target stand? If so use a white paper plate on the target and slowly work it further away. The primary goal of the course is safety, the secondary goal is accuracy. Take your time and shoot accurately. Speed will come with time and practice, hopefully.

lets not sell this short, your BB course with Alex is beyond safety. he's going to give you all the building blocks needed to excel in this sport, its up to you to practice them and make them permanent.

long as you are on paper on your on at 10 yards, techniques in his course you will learn will get you alphas at 30 yards.

Ya I did. He's great to learn from and him and I think very alike. How's life in the desert?

Alex is good to learn from. He helped Rob Elliot teach a course I took a few years ago.

Hot & sunny in the desert. 105*F today. By the end of Sept will be back in the low 90's.
