I just finished putting together my first AR last month, NEA with 14.5" barrel. Now I need to get some fun optics on it. I picked up some Magpul BUS for it as I just wanted something cheap so I could get it shooting. Now that I know it's running just fine I wan't to get better sites for it.

I apologize if this has been covered quite a bit already but I went through the first few pages and didn't see anything obvious.

VERY new to the AR platform so I have no idea what's available, what's good, what to avoid etc....

What do you guys suggest? I don't think I wan't to spend more than a few hundred. Will mostly be used in an indoor range with a rifle bay but hopefully will get used at an outdoor range in the not so distant future.

So ya, AR noob who is also an optics noob. What should I know?

On a side note, my brother just bought a tackle shop in Parksville and as a result has access to some dealer websites. Took a look and there are some Burris scopes he might be able to order for me. What's the word on them?

Also give Vortex a look. Their red dots the Sparc and Strikefire are well review (I'm biased, I run a Strikefire) and their warranty service is fantastic from what I've heard. Fantastic optics for the price.

I found the Burris AR536 at The Shooting Edge here in town, currently out of stock and sticker price was $600. Bit more than I care to spend atm.

Thanks for the suggestion on Vortex, I do believe i saw that one on my brothes Vendor sight.

Did you build on stripped NEA lower? How was it? Where did you get one and how much was it?

I don't often recommend Bass Pro but they had the Burris 332 for $420 the las time I was there.

Yep. It's the first AR I've built so can't comment much on now it compares to others but it was fine as far as I could tell. No tool marks, even finish, fit's tightly with the NEA upper.

Bought it at The Shooting Edge in Calgary about a year ago I'd say? $170ish...

Alberta Tactical Rifle has a couple of RDS I think may fit the bill. The Vortex SPARC and Vortex StrikeFire.

I think I'm leaning towards the SPARC atm as it seems like a better unit.

Has anyone tried these out before and have an opinon?

I'm assuming down the road, I could put a magnifyer in front of it?

I've also read references to "co-witness", what does that mean?
