Just for knowledge

I own pistols in all those calibres. I shoot them all.... But I shoot WAY more 9mm than all of the others combined! Mostly due to cost and I like the semi's better than the revolvers.

I always tell new shooters to start with a .22 & a 9mm, and then to go where their heart & pocket book takes them!

Cheers!

why ? because you can...

and why not master all of them ? insteat of only one or two...

Good luck with that. At the rate most on here shoot, their chances of mastering any one calibre is close to zero. Either that or your definition of "mastering" is far different than mine.

There's a discussion in another thread where several CGN members admit to owning several guns they've either never shot or shot very few rounds from. I can see the goal of owning many and mastering them all is working out for them.

.38 spec. you can get a good used revolver at a reasonable price and it will out shoot almost anyone on this site. most autos that are as accurate or close are many times more expensive. IPSC, IDPA PPC etc are fun but i suggest you learn sight alignment and trigger control first ie good ole bullseye shootin. Most of the good action shooters I know are also good bullseye shooters !! Whatever you decide remember it all about having fun so shoot whats fun for you

In addition to some 1911 target pistols, the Smith & Wesson Model 52 target pistol is a semi-auto that shoots the .38 Special, as a full wadcutter. A very nice gun indeed, but it takes a steady hand to shoot it well. The .38 is a nice target cartridge, but certainly the vast majority of guns using it are revolvers.

I belive that you are refering to the .38 Super /not the .38 special.
and its quite popular .and seems to be very accurate in the 1911 platform .
but its really just a souped up 9mm in my opinion

really fugly, old school

Nope he is referring to the .39spl. I had one years ago and traded it. Very nice gun and extremey accurate. One of the finest target pistols on the market. Built like a Swiss watch. Gunnar has even made 19911 uppers for the .39spl.

My advice is to buy a pistol or revolver that meets yuor intended use if you are set on only one gun. Despite a comment to the contrary you can maximize your ability with numerous handguns given the physical abilities you have been blessed with. If you are just a caual plinker than ignore the cost of ammo. If you are going to shoot one of the action shooting sports hike down to your local club and try the guys guns. You will soon settle on one you like.

Take Care
