This is not really my area of expertise. The barrel has rifling, and i have purchased percussion caps. It is an Armi Jager repro and has fancy flip sights for 1-2-300 yds. 33" barrel.

where the hell do you get .58 balls or bullets or whatever the hell this thing shoots? only .50 stuff available locally.

what kind of black powder do i buy?

it doesn't say Glock or Tactical anywhere on it. there is no mags or rails. i am lost.

anyone have a good recipe for this thing?

COOL!
Zuove type replica.
get some FFG powder and some musket caps, and some minie balls, and have fun!
You will also need a powder measure a capper , lube Crisco shortening works good. and a bag to hold all the stuff!
Lyman's Black powder manual is a good book to get BTW!

I hate to say it, but I get all the odd ball stuff through Dixie gun works in the USA, they have everything. A 58 (.575-.577)cal minnie is probably a good place to start, If the rifling is faster than 1-48, use patched round ball if it is around 1-66, It should have fairly fast rifling though. Minnies are the easiest to load because they are slightly smaller than the bore and "spread" when fired to engage the rifling. an FFG (or pyrodex RS)load of 60 grains(by volume not weight) is a good starting point. (although fairly low)

Hi there, sent ya a pm cat, i had one, had the antonio zoli replica, was usung 60gr charge of 2f, and the lyman 575 dia mini, i even have some here still, also used them in my kodiak i had from pedersoli, patch balls wont do great with the fast rifling, if its 1 in 48 your ok either way, if its one like i had, 1 in 36, bullets shot ex, balls, looked like target was hit with buckshot ,lol, message me when u get a chance

Oops cat,i read this thread wrong, thought u had the gun, lmao this cell phone version of cgn doesnt showme the whole adds, just frame by frame, lol, i seen your nameand p_ just got a 58, lol forthe owner that has it, they re fun, load it stout and it will kick you, but with proper load and a steady aim, they shoot well, 60 gr was the military load for the "zouave" soldiers, use 2f

Nice rifle!

1./Before you shoot it really clean out the barrel and bolster.

2./After you shoot it really clean the barrel out with water dry it then oil and grease it for storage.

3./Before loading and shooting it, bust a cap or 2 on her to clear out the ignition channel.

4./FFG black powder comparative to the size of the round--58 cal -60 grains or thereabouts

5./Patched round balls or mini conicals

6./ sell most of your modern arms to by flintlocks and really enjoy shooting again.

see if you can get several types of minnie balls to try, lyman or lee or I think dixie has their own molds too, it takes alot of fiddling to get these guns running great. the military load was 70g and thats what I shoot, I can shoot a group around a foot and a half in size at 175 yards with that and the lyman minnie

how important is the size of the patch?

will a patch for a 54-56 work in a 58?

i managed to get everything else. except a book, nothing local, will have to order.

i understand the cleaning part.

measure powder and pour in.
place patch and ball on top.
use starter and push in.
use ramrod to firmly seat the patched ball against the powder.
make mark on ramrod to show loaded depth.
align sights and unleash nostalgiac ball of death.

sound about right?

Sounds like you got it. I suggest doing some research to see if there is a local black powder group at your local Fish and Game/shooting club. Its a great way to meet a bunch of awesome people who can pass along their knowledge and experience. In closing, I think your gun will shoot minnies better than a patched round ball but who knows. Nothing ventured nothing gained...

Cheers. Steve.

Try some Lee .562 round ball and .15 thou. patch.. Not tradtional but some shoot better with round ball and you can use a black powder subtitute like Pioneer, Triple 7 etc.. Easy clean-up The subtitutes don not work well with Minne's.. Good luck..
