Just got a new XCR... Now what optics...

I just received my new XCR, but I don't know what to run for optics, it came with irons, so for a while that's what I'll be doing. But I wanted some opinions from other XCR owners... I got the .223, and am on a budget. That being said, I'd rather splurge on one expensive peice, than replace a crappy one 4 times at the same cost. The 3 that I'm liking the looks of, but haven't used any of them, is:

-ACOG with red Chevron (the reticle has drop already entered in for .223 ranges)

-Eotech holographic, not set on model, but the sight looks... interesting.

-Aimpoint. I like the idea that the aimpoint can be closed up with caps, has as low as a 2 moa dot...

With that being said, of the 3 I like, what would YOU as an XCR owner use of those 3? And, what do you actually use? Anyone have some great info on a cheap-but-durable version of these? Thanks!!!

Edit: The irons are flip ups, and i'd like to keep them on when mounting optics, so something that can clear them when they're flipped down.... I'd like something durable for going through woods and brush.

I did, and I read all of the suggestions, my concern with most of the ones i read in it, were that they are quite low mounted, wasn't sure if they would impede the BUIS, and they specifically request for the P90. (I also read the thread in the black/green shotgun forum about reddots, while hoping to learn more). Figured I'd throw some feelers out for an XCR/AR style, what different people are running, and how they like them. I put up the 3 that I kinda like, but don't honestly have any experience with.

Basically, I wasn't trying to duplicate that thread, was trying to branch off from it, hoping to get some more reviews on magnified especially, since everything i've found to read on here seems to deal strictly with quick red dots. (Or, go into precision forum)

I got one recently and put a Bushnell 6500 1.25-8 powered scope on it. It has around 6" of eye relief so you shouldn't have any problems with your buis getting in the way, mine is mounted on an ARMS QD base, seems to work so far.

I have an eoTech with a chinese copy magnifier on mine. Works great. The chinese knock off Eotech's are crap. The magnifiers are not.

I put my Eotech on, and I'm shooting much better now.

Depends on how much you want to spend and what you want to do I suppose.

That said, I sure like my Leupold Mk4 1.5-5. Easily accessible elevation and windage adjustments and with that particular magnification range you can do just about anything. It's not the greatest for 25m and in but you can overcome that slight disadvantage with practice. Put it in an ADM Recon or Recon-H mount and I think you've got a pretty good combo.

By "impede the BUIS" I meant, that I don't want something mounted SO low, that my folded down iron sights would block half the view, Or just make it akward. I've had the gun for nearly 12 hours now, and haven't tried mounting anything on it yet. Definately deferring to the expertise of others :)

Paul, Do you happen to know where I can look up these cheap chinese magnifiers? Brand name or anything? That sounds like a pretty cool setup.

Dave: Thanks for the advice there, the ADM Recon mount definately looks good.

I don't want to spend more than is necessary, buuut, that being said, I'd also like to not have to deal with crap breaking. Pay more, to only have to pay once. Thanks for the tips so far guys, really appreciate them. Giving me lots to google! :)

So here is my favorite question.

"What are you going to use it for?"

I have shot a fair number of optics and come to the conclusion that there is no perfect solution. There is a big difference between shooting 5m and 500m .

lol, I expected the 'for what' question a lot sooner ;) Mostly target shooting, anywhere from 15-1,000m (not expecting much @ 1,000m, just saying it isn't gonna be just a range gun) realistically, most shooting probly in the 50-300 range.. Definately plan to execute a few gophers...
