Just got a nice Sako, could anyone tell me anything about it or it's value?

Hi there I just traded my Mossberg Tactical .22 and a few accessories for this Sako .300 Rem Ultra Mag w/stainless steel barrel and Sako scope rings. Just wondering what it's worth and if it was a good trade. The makings say Sako V on it but I'm not sure of the model. Any info would be appreciated.

Its difficult to place a re-sale value, for one thing its magnaported and that might have an affect on selling depending on the buyer.
As for me I have a couple similar ported rifles and for that reason would not buy it...

It's a sako 75.
On the plus side, it's a 75 (my favorite of all the sako series to date) and in a fairly uncommon caliber plus it came with optilock rings and bases which are expensive on their own.
On the negative side, it has the "key concept" bolt lock which is an ugly feature that you should replace with a non-locking version, and someone had it magnaported.

I have bought used 75's from $800-1600 depending on caliber, model, and of course condition.

Sako model 75 in the SS model. "V" action size is used in Sako m75 rifles for "MAGNUM" caliber (7mmRM / 300WM/338WM and the early SM's prior the SM-action). The bolt has the "Key-Concept" bolt lock (I do not care for myself). Optilock mounts-looks like HIGH rings to me. Hinged floor plate is the only way the 300RUM came from Sako. I thought of adding one of these a couple years ago to my collection of Sako m75 rifles, but I love my first m75 Sako rifle (300WM) I bought new in 1997, so no need for the 300RUM for me.

IMHO, the rifle with the Optilock rings and bases, value-wise would be between $1000-1300.

What is the marks in the end of the barrel? Just scratches or some kind of porting?

A year or two ago I sold an identical rifle except mine was not ported, had no key concept, and was in perfect condition. I had bought it new, and had fired a grand total of four rounds through it before I decided that the recoil was too much for my liking. IIRC correctly I got $1450 shipped.

You got a higher end rifle, in stainless, in a very hard to find chambering. I say you did good either way. EDIT- Also looks like it has a hinged floorplate, as opposed to the more common detachable mag. The floorplate, in my mind is preferred, if I'm not mistaken theyre also harder to find.

And ya, it'll stomp deer, moose, and bear. As long as you can handle the recoil.

You have done quite well in your trade. Unbeknown to many magna-porting is performed to prevent muzzle jump and not recoil. Your rings and bases are worth $275.00. Stainles steel on the metal............I'd say you have done quite well. The cartridge is probably the second fastest 30 cal. on the market after the big Lazzeroni Warbird. The 300 RUM is a big kicker, however great for long range killing and penetration on larger big game such as elk and moose.

Thanks Guys yeah I traded the Mossberg Tactical .22 with a Ncstar Scope and Reflex sight foregrip and ammo for it so I'd say yeah |I should likely do time.lol I knew it was worth more than the 500 I had into the Mossberg and equipment but wasn't sure how much more. It is by far the smoothest action on a bolt I've ever felt. I've only had it for a few days and after cleaning it up I think it's a keeper for sure. Any recommendations on how to protect the stainless steel are there special compounds for this.

That's a heck of a trade! Better change your phone number and move...;)

In my book, you win a lot in that trade.
Nice rifle.
I love the 300 RUM. I have one an expect to get some others.

You STOLE that rifle :D . I think to alleviate your guilt, you should buy everyone in this thread a beer, and a shot....make it Guinness and Gibsons Silver Label for me. Thanks buddy.
