Honestly, I'd keep it just as it is if it were mine, as a piece of folk art it speaks rather powerfully, expecially the stock. The intact volley sight disk, symbolizes the horrors of war, the French coin <may> indicate service in France from the old soldier who initially bought it as surplus, and the Lord's prayer just speaks of a promise that she will never kill another man again ... Just ... priceless symbolism there, and I'm sure she brought meat to the table of some hungry family for decades after she was surplussed.
