Just got a Ruger m77

Hi all... Just aquired a M77 Ruger in .338 win mag. The serial # starts with 74, which from what I read, makes it a 1980.... So is this a MkII? , and would it be called a long action? I ask because I was thinking I might put a Boyds stock on it, and put the original away for now... Thanks as always!!

If it has a tang safety it is an original M77. If the safety is on the bolt then it's a MkII

.338 Win Mag would qualify as long action.

Barrels were sourced out to two different companies, and yours is the latter which was hit or miss, especially in 7x57 Mauser. Try it out with a few loads and hopefully you got a good barrel. Mine is in 308 Winchester from the latter company and I got lucky with a good one.
