Just got a Tapco 5/20 mag, it doesn't fit...

I just picked up a 5/20 Tapco Mag and it won't fit my 1951 Russian SKS.. At first I thought it was the stock because it was scraping some wood.. but I removed the stock completely and tried inserting the mag.. no dice, only gets about 90% of the way..

the stock is part of the problem, the rest is the mag, you have to file/cut away in certain places on the mag to get it to fit. if you pull it in/out a few times, you will see the rub marks on the mag

i found exactly where the issue is.. how can you make a product you need to modify?!

Because it was made to work with Chinese and Russian versions, produced over many years. There will be some variation between these rifles, so you will need to modify the mag to work with your specific application.
I had to file a little bit to fit my Tapco into my norinco SKS.

Thanks, i got out the razor blade and hacked it down a bit... tight.. but it now fits..

Thanks, Im very intrigued to see what happens. You could get a pic of the mag in gun, action opened.... Im curious how the "lips" of the Tapco look in a factory stock.......

Now Im really intrigued!!!! I just finished fileing down those lips on one of mags, especially towards the front of the mag (advise from another thread), now mine feeds. Ill take it out tomorrow and give it a try. Thanks for the pics, they helped alot!!

My Mags fit No problem with my Chinese SKS and Tapco stock.

I looked up "Tapco" in a thesaurus... Found out "doesn't fit" means the same thing.
