Initial impressions are very good. The mount is deffinately well made with precise machining good hardware. I mounted a Bushnell LER scope last night and it seems to fit really well. The Turf made stock is set to arrive this afternoon sometime so hopefully I can get out shooting this weekend and give you guys a good idea of how things are working out.

Either way Brownells was very prompt and had no issues. Cheers!

PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it the forward mount/handguard replacement? I looked at one of those a year ago, but Brownells wouldn't ship it!
So they've opened up the border have they? what kind of optics have you put on it? how solid is it? Let's have a debrief! :D
(And pics! )

Yea its the handguard replacement. It seems really solid, though I haven't shot it yet. I only have my camera phone so pics are kinda rough. I also put the action in a new Turf stock. When I get a chance to shoot it I'll let you know how it works.

Brownells will ship it. The >$100. value dictates permits, however, so Brownells - by law - cannot ship it unless you follow the process and get the permits.

Errr...I've ordered and had the Ultimak delivered by Brownells on two separate occasions, without any permits. They are not classified as gun parts. You can see that on Brownells website.

I'll post a pic of my two shortly.

Well I don't know why they wouldn't ship it to me last year, but now that I know it was just me, I'll try again. Thanks guys.
by the way, nice pics Sharkson!

I recently installed UltiMAK upper and lower rails on my AK and I'm impressed with the fit, finish and quality.

I plan to try their M14 rail soon :)

Sharkson, have you shot a few rounds with your shorties ? how's the ultimaks holding up, re: zero ?
thx

The Ultimak on the EOTECH equipped M1A has seen about 300 rounds. No movement so far. Don't expect any.

I just sighted in the shortie with the new Ultimak and Scout scope on Thursday. One session, 40 rounds. So, no repeat yet. But it's on there tight.

Have you tried any distance shooting with the ULTIMAK? I'd be very interested in getting one if I knew the rifle would perform at service rifle match distances. Secondly, what scope is that?

(It is nearly a year since the OSA clinic at Milcun. How you doing?)

Doing well, though not getting to the range as much as I'd like. See my avatar for the two reasons. :)

I did though skip turkey hunting on Friday and went to Sharon Gun Club. I shot the shortie M305 at 200 and 300yds. I was a little rushed (kids again), but it shot as expected with the Leupold Scout 2.5x28mm (see w ww.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/scopes/fx-ii-riflescopes/fx-ii-2-5x28mm-ier-scout/) and Port surplus. More magnification would be helpful at 300. But the rig is set up for moose/deer hunting this fall.

I hope to get back up to Milcun once this summer, but I doubt I'll manage it b/c of cottage reno duties this year. I do plan on joining OSA when I have more time and the boys can join in.

Ultimak

Used one on a receiver mount scoped M14 norc. It shot better with the Ultimak than with the stock handguard. I surmise it was because of the barrel whip being tamed by the 4 spread out barrel clamps holding the Ultimak on , thus stiffening the barrel greatly. Different temperatures cause different whipping on an M14 standard weight barrel. Also the group down shift with a heating barrel was greatly diminished.
Viron stocks extensively tested barrel whip with temperature change and came up with a barrel clamping system in their stocks. I think the Ultimak accomplishes the same thing. Is also a great big heat sink - thus a cooler barrel with long strings. I think its a valuable albeit expensive accuracy add on for a receiver scoped M14 , giving the versatility for a change to a scout scope or red dot.
