After a long 1 and a half month search, I finally got me a Lee Enfield in military configuration! Its a 1940 BSA No1 MK III. Came with a box of Federal 180gr, a spare mag, and the sling. Got in just in time for Remembrance Day! The previous owner did a great job taking care of it.

Can't wait to get out and try 'er out. This is my WWII rifle collection as of now. Now I'm looking for a Mauser. Will most likely end up getting a Brno Vz 24 Mauser. Would also like to get a Long Branch No 4.

I have the same 3, save for the fact my Enfield is a Longbranch No4. Lots of fun there, enjoy!!!

Cheers
Jay

nice rifle, i really regret selling my No1 MK III it use to shoot amazing and i love the looks of them, i want to get one again

Its all matching serial number. Just noticed it this morning well I was giving the rifle a real good look though. Its serial number is pretty awesome. Why is 6 afraid of 7? Because 789. I'm going to go test 'er out here today and I'll post a shooting thread afterwards. To make things interesting, I'll compare it to the Mosin Nagant well shooting.

"...all matching serial number..." Check the headspace anyway. Matching numbers doesn't guarantee the bolt head is original to the rifle. Last I saw, bayonets, in decent condition, are running around a 'C' note.

Very nice start. A VZ 24 would be a nice pick up, but if you want a bit more nostalgia to your WW2 collection, spend a couple hundred more if you can afford to and get a K98.

I don't fully understand your post about the serial numbers matching.

These rifles would/should have 5 numbers matching, as does mine.

What's there to not understand? Its serial number is 789. The bolt says 789, On the side of the action says 789, the but plate says 789, at the back of the stock behind the sling swivel says 789, under the rear sight says 789 on the wood and again 789 on the rear sight. At the tip of the stock behind the bayonet lug says 789, On the barrel cap again says 789.

That's one hell of a nice find. Well done, sir!

You need to acquire some "Stripper Clips",or as the Brits named them "Chargers" so you can load your Lee Enfield the way all British Commonwealth troopies were trained , not by changing the magazine .

I was just shooting mine this morning. Fun fun fun for sure.

nice...good to hear you had her out

shot mine from the hip for the first two rounds...never checked it for headspace...I know, I know

locks up tight...haven't shot it for accuracy yet...but I was picking off soda cans, kneeling on gravel, at 50 and 100 yards no problem

Welcome to the Enfield family, I have 4 of them. A 1856 model 1853 with the Snider .577 with bayonet, a 1914 .22 trainer a 1919 SMLE Mark III (sportorized) and a savage Enfield 1942 No 4 Mk1 with bayonet and I love them all.
