Just got me a very light Forbes 30-06 + an Ultralight Leupold scope...

If it comes out under 7 for your purpose life is good... Still looking to pick up a good spot and stalk with nice iron sights myself... Looking at tradex right now...

Here's one of my 50 year old Husqvarnas, ready to go with five in the magazine.

They are a full pound lighter than the Model 70 Featherweight from the same era, and not too shabby compared to today's offerings. :)

It is a 4100 in 270 Winchester. Also have one in a Brown Precision Pound'r. It is really light! Will take a picture and post it, too.

My point in posting the 4100 picture, was that the rifle is fifty years old, and was a true featherweight back then, being a pound less than the Model 70. Most standard offerings of the day were around nine pounds or a bit heavier.

Yes Ted, I agree that they were really light - another good lightweight from that era is the Brno 21H. The last one I had was a shade over 6lbs bare. There is also something to be said for the look and feel of a nice wood stock. Correct me if I am wrong, but the BSA Majestic was also quite light.

The one in the center is the model 4000 Light weight in 30-06 I posted the photo of earlier. It was Dad's pride & joy and it's about the same vintage as your 4100 as he purchased it in the mid 60's. As I mentioned, ready to go it weighs 7 3/4lbs.

The one on top, the model 3000 in 270 Win that I 'adopted' from you:) comes in at 8 3/4.

And on the bottem, another I 'adopted' from you:D, a model 1651 in 358 NM, 9lbs.

Hey! Where's the moose!

Not sure if the Majestic was the lightest in the BSA family, or not, but there definitely was a featherweight model, that is easily identified. It has a slim barrel profile that steps down immediately ahead of the receiver ring, and hollowed-out area inside the forestock to keep the weight down. IIRC, the buttstock is also drilled out. The common complaint was that the 30-06 and 270 kicked the daylights out of the shooter. I have had a few of them over the years, and they certainly woke a fellow up.

BTW, if you know anyone who needs a set of rings, I have a set of custom rings with machined recoil studs for the BSA receiver dovetails. Done by Bill Leeper, I had him make me an extra set when he made the set for my 7X57.

Caramel,
Did Clay bring the rifle in for you or just import it after you ordered through Forbes?
Wait time?
Is the price on the web site close to actual?
Which scope rings fit, does it come with the talleys?
Reason I ask the q's is they make rifles in lefthand and I am in the market for a light rifle for hiking in the mountains as my current light rifle is 9#
How is Forbes and NULA related, I see he started NULA but why is there two companies now, or am I totally missing something in the relationship?

Thanks

Hi, Clay did recieved 4 Forbes Model 24 all in 30-06, he did send me some private pictures ( those are available from Prophet)...
The Forbes are supplied with their own Talley weighing at 2 ounces for the set, rifle case is included...
The price is 1700.00, since i ordered a mega order ( one DE 44mag gold/ one Ruger Lypsey SA single 10 22 lr/ one Leupold scope/ and the Forbes), i surely got a discount...
Forbes and NULA is the same rifle, one is custom the other one is factory but parts are fully interchangeable... JP.

Still have a couple left and they will be listed on website in coming hours...
Will be on CGN tonight actually.

1700$... For a blued model? Yikes. I'm sure Clay has done all he can to bring us the best price.
I was waiting to hear what they'd retail for here in Canada, and now that I know I'd have no trouble choosing between a Forbes and a Kimber.
My NULA cost twice what a new Kimber Montana goes for, but you'd never hear me call it twice the rifle.
Time for a review I guess.

Does Kimber make a lefthand stainless model?

6.5 pounds all dressed... / .250 MOA with Nosler Accubond 165 gr @ 3000 fps....
This is not so irrealistic, actually would not be surprised at all... Will wait and see... JP.

You've already got it shooting .25 before you even have it in your hands? Dude, I actually cut you some slack when you were named directly in another thread about outlandish accuracy claims! You got some serious swag.

My day start @ .5 and finish @ .2 if not, tomorrow is another day... Trying to surpass yourself is a way of life... JP.
