Just got my Savage Scout 10FCM

I never got around to load development for this gun until moose season was on me. I did my new 45/70 and 7mm-08 first.

I quickly developed a 300 wsm load with Re19 and 180gr Interbonds. I ran the load up to just below max before the bolt got sticky, dropped 1 grain and called it good. It groups under 1.5inches at 100 metres. Not great but acceptable for my use. Recoil and blast are fine with his load. Adjusting the COAL my tighten thngs up and I might move to a lighter bullet any way.

I'll try to get back to it this summer but too many guns and hobbies with not enough time.

It was my understanding the new ones didn't have iron sights....which to me, are a 'must'. Where did you get that one, and is it 'new' or one of the earlier batch?

Did you get your misunderstanding from the Wholesale Sports website that shows a picture of it with sights but says under product details "no sights"?

The Savage website says it has sights. Guess who you should believe.

Wholesale Sports' website and their catalogues can be useful starting points for discovering what might be, but until I am in the store holding in my hands something I found on the shelf, I don't believe in it.

It's not because WSS are idiots, it's that the people who are listing stuff for sale aren't pros on every make and model of equipment they carry. I do agree that you should do more research once you find something you like, but I find WSS and Cabelas' website so terrible that I can hardly go there anymore.

One place in Canada that has a nice website is SFRC. I admit that I've only purchased stuff from there once, but they have the best site layout of any gun store in this country.

You can search ammunition by caliber, and they actually sort the guns properly. They don't have COMING SOON or a bunch of sold out crap everywhere. I remember a few years ago when I had Marstar's VZ58L page as one of my tabs that started up every time I opened my browser just hoping that one day it would be in stock. I finally called them and wondered deep down how anyone could run a business like that, I hear they're getting a new site though. I mean at least have a section where you move all of your dated pages so people don't get excited over a gun that hasn't been for sale in 5 years.

Back to the Savage Scout, I'd be curious to see if that's more accurate than the Ruger. I bet it is, but it's not stainless. I just bought the Ruger so when I get it I'll probably post some targets.

I think I may paint some white around the peep sight and front blade though after I range test it on Saturday (gold bead on top of the blade isn't doing it for me)

You might find you like the brass bead in the end. They seem to show up well against light and dark targets....

But..but...but, Savage Scout can actually hit a target at 100m! No Ruger has ever been able to do that! Let alone a short chubby one. :D

sorry for the stupid late reply guys, I've been away from cgn for some time - i figure i should give a quick range report for those thinking about this gun.
as far as accuracy with the little scout scope pictured i was consistently making 5 moa groups at 100 yards
2 years ago i put a higher power scope on it (another cheapo from ncstar: 4 -16X50 p4sniper mark 3) and consistently get 2moa out of it at 100 yards.

i took it to the gwaii this winter and we took 4 deer with it using the peep sight irons and it worked like a charm.

*EDIT* I should also add that the recoil pad on it is very gelly and consequently the rifle should not be stored buttside down (wound up getting tacky and ripped a chunk off of it from sitting in said position for a few months)
