Ok so I went to see the old fella across the street to say I got his message and ask what changed his mind. Turns out it was his daughter, she likes the deer. He said he really didn’t care if we hunted but kinda shrugged his shoulders like he has to go with his daughter on this one.
I half joking asked if she was a vegetarian, he said she was,
too bad I said, cause only a vegetarian can make a legitimate argument against hunting.
Turns out they are seventh day Adventists reformed and are all vegetarian.
I said your a vegetarian and you were still going to let me hunt with a surprised and impressed look.
I then asked about his driveway which still hadn’t been shoveled. (Snowed a lot (for here) yesterday) He asked if knew anyone with a plow? I said I’ll get my snow blower. Cause I’m a good Christian neighbour and it’s going to snow again tomorrow which would have left his driveway in pretty bad shape
Oh it turns out he is 89 and actually looks good for 89 which makes a point about the vegetarian thing.
So I was almost done his driveway and his daughter pulls up. Wasn’t quite sure how that would go but we had a great conversation. I introduced myself . She was very grateful for clearing the driveway and probably surprised that a hunter wasn’t drooling blood and armed to the teeth.
They are fine with me and the boys poking around in his woods and also she said she’s fine with us hunting turkeys. Guess she only wants to save the cute animals.
Either way. Like some of you said it’s good to follow up on these things.
And turkey hunting is still pretty good.
