My first 7.62 x 39mm rifle, but not the first one I've shot:D

I absolutely love this gun, I got it from a dealer in my city and they had 10 of them fresh from China, they were in cardboard boxes and didn't have cleaning kits that I heard all Norinco rifles have. Instead I get a spring in my butt stock? haha I wasn't too concerned. Also to note if anyone else got there rifle like this too, my bayonet was not sharpened it was dull and I had to grind it to a spike myself.

Now I basically have the entire rifle in my head but for one thing, I need to clean the bolt and firing pin and I notice I need a punch and some other tools maybe to take it apart for cleaning. Also am I suppose to use oil inside the bolt for the pin?

I don't have the correct tools to take apart my bolt assembly to clean the pin, is there any other way I can clean it? is soaking it in solvent for a few minutes ok?

to get rid of the cosmosline , you need to take the bolt apart.

no special tool needed to take the bolt apart, preferably you use a punch and a hammer but if no punch then use a small nail (upside down) to drive out the firing pin retainer. observe carefully how the pin came out as you would need to put the pin back in the same way (not upside down) .

once you done cleaning... how about some pic and details? like what factory built it , what year it was built and so on.

Sounds good I got my camera right beside me too I'll get on that as soon as I'm done with this pin. P.s. what do you recommend I can improvise with to hold the bolt and something underneath to catch the pin retainer?

A local shop (Regina). I paid 200 and they sold me some milsirp for a couple bucks less per box. Its been choppin up gophers and coyotes without a single problem and no complaint on accuracy either.

Was that 200 tax paid or pre tax? I had thought Darryl at TNT was going to bring them in for 169... make sure you clean the rifle well after using the milsurp ammo as it is Czech corrosive primed ammo!

For taking apart smaller mechanisms on my SKS I got a couple pieces of plywood and cut them about 6" x 6" and then drilled a bunch of 3/8 holes in the wood, about 1/2 way through. This way you can lay things down flat on the wood, but pins etc can be pushed through to the other side, and they just go into the holes you drilled and don't roll away or get lost. Only tools you need for the SKS is a small punch or two (or finishing nails if you're stuck) and a small hammer and a pair of needle nose pliers (optional).

It was defiantly 200 before tax but it wasn't much more than $200.00

Yes I clean the rifle heavy after every shoot, its amazing all the crap that builds up in the gas system and barrel. Also one of the guys working at Tnt directed me to a solvent named "Sweet's 7.62" its almost like an oil and it stinks to high hell but apparently its really good for corrosive 7.62 surplus. I love the chrome barrel too it really stands up against that corrosive ####.

im pritty sure the $$$ value might have somthing to do with it plus how cheep the ammo is .....like come on........

ofcos , thats how i got drawn in, cheap rifle/cheap ammo , followed by average rifle/cheap ammo and now im looking for expensive rifle/expensive ammo.... i admit, im hooked.....:D

So, I got a question:

Can you load it with the stripper clip? And if so, would mounting a scope interfere with loading via stripper clip?

yes, sks was design to use with stripper clip....no interference if you use a compact scope (under 8") on the top cover.

How long does the corrosion from milsurp need to sit to do damage to the gas system? My sks is Chinese and has the chrome barrel so I know it can take a lil more abuse than normal but the gas system seems very vulnerable. And yes I do clean it after every shoot I was just wondering.
