I have been looking for a scope for my target .22 cal. rifle. I really don't want to spend $1,200.00 for a Leupold! I am looking at Tasco. I know that they are more cheaply made...in China, I believe....BUT....for a 10-40X50 with target turrets and a 1/8" mildot I am giving it some consideration. Does anyone here have experience with this scope or any other related comments? If I find a group to shoot with and if I begin to look at competitions I would certainly consider a better quality scope.

You don't want to spend $1200 on a Leupold but what is your price range? A target rifle should have a decent scope. A Bushnell 3200/4200, Leupold VX11 or Nikon Buckmaster would work great and are half the price of what you didn't want to pay and still great quality.

Yea I realize I didn't answer your question about the Tasco....I do that alot :)

see if you can find a used Weaver T36 or T24 or T16. Will hold better point of impact then most Leupolds and won't break the bank.

I just sent two Leupolds back for warranty repair... = fix and repair daily...FORD.....oops kidding guys...a bit frustrating though...

Also a B&L 36 or 24x.

I use an old Weaver 3-9X40 with Micro-Trac adjustments. It has an adjustable objective that actually works, and I use it at our indoor range in the winter and on the silhouette course the rest of the year.

Bought it for $100 and would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Dantforth......i use a Tasco 10-40 on a target rifle in .308 that is used just to test cast bullets....no trouble at all with scope, good value, holds impact and adjustments are accurate...the only diff. I can see is clarity is not up to snuff. Sometimes at 100 or 200 yds. i turn the power down for a clearer view....Ben

I had a Tasco 3-9x40, Pronghorn, 1980's manufacture, on my .338 win mag for fifteen years, no problems. Shot with it out to 500 yards and hunted with it. I recently "upgraded" to a VXII, but I really had no problems at all with the Tasco. As a matter of fact, I'm in the process of mounting it on my Garand on a cantelever mount to add some range to my open sights. It should hit the field again on the Garand next spring, and I'm confident it will work. I can't comment on these newer and cheaper Tasco's but the Pronghorn I have ($199 in the late eighties) is the real deal.

Tasco varmint sitting on my 17 hmr. No complaints. Holds its zero and for the ranges it is used for is quite clear. For the price I think they are a a decent deal.

Well, there are target rifles and there are Target Rifles. If you are just doing informal target shooting you probably don't want to spend even $600 on a scope. The Bushnell Banner 4x12 AO or its big brother the 6x24 are good value for informal target shooting.

Do you mean .22cal as in rimfire or .22x cal centrefire? For the former, I have a Tasco 4x20 that cost about $20, and it can certainly handle the recoil of .22LongRifle, so any better Tasco model that has optical quality that looks good to you for the target shooting you are doing should be up to the job.

There are lots of scopes better than Tasco's and if that's what you need that's what you should get, but it doesn't mean a Tasco is no good at all. If the cheap option does the job well enough, there's more money for ammo, gas to get to the range, another gun, etc.
