Just how tough are coyotes ?

This one will do while that PHC problem is being worked on.

Would my neighbours yappy dog have a similiar sweet spot? Just curious.

No, the sweet spot on a neighbours dog is between the back of the eye, and the base of the ear. You don't want it running home wounded.
When I was young, a guy in our neighborhood shot a problem dog in the area with his crossbow, thinking it would be a quiet problem solved. The dog ran home, arrow hanging out of its side.
Not cool.

I don't think I know of an animal that has more desire to live. Shot a lot of coyotes and they seem to be impervious to pain.

A few years back a buddy and I were hunting coyotes in Alberta on a cold January morning. He hit one, standing broadside, with a 30-06 and it flopped. It then proceeded to get up and run. I gave it a brace of #4 Buck at around 15 yards through a Wad Wizard choke. It rolled twice and dropped again. As we high fived and gave it a few minutes before we walked out it managed to get up and hit the tree line at a run. After an hour of tracking we lost it in the alders. We figured because it was -30 the wounds froze over and that's why we lost the blood trail.

my buddy shot one with his .204, perfect broad side shot, it went in, through both lungs, hit the back of the rib cage and ricochet out between its back legs pulling all its intestines out the MASSIVE exit wound. the coyote spun 4 times, reached back with its mouth and started yanking its own guts out of itself, then started to trot off like nothing had happened.

it was only a 130 yard shot, a .223 shot to the noodle ended him.

very surprised at how tough it was.

I use a 243 for most of my coyote hunting. They can go a long way with just a slightly off shot. Calling we get them very close and a 22 centerfire works. The 243 shines at range. Another hard animal is the damn badger.

Had an old neighbor. Shot one, figured it was dead and threw it over his shoulder to haul it back to the house, when it came to life and tried to bite him in the ass. :)

Grizz

I shot a badger at 15 yards with my T/C Omega right thru the chest. What surprised me the most is he got up and called me an a$$hole before it died! Tough bastages for sure. Wouldn't wanna tangle with a Wolverine either!
