the first thing is to DOWNLOAD FM 23-8- the field manual- at least as a supplement to the "issued" owners manual unless you are trained on the rifle- and then understand it- turn it upside down and listen for the piston klunk, dry fire it , feel the trigger, etc- get to know it intimately BEFORE firing it-ALWAYS FEED IT FROM THE MAGAZINE( WHICH ISN'T MENTIONED ANYWHERE in the manuals- it's just assumed since it says in step one- insert a FRESH MAGAZINE- ) AND DEGREASE IT PROPERLY-

They say since the bolt wouldnt be stripping the cartrige from the magazine, it would be travelling faster and increase the risk of a slam fire. Especially with commercial ammo.

Still working on Ontario clinics for Jan , Feb and March. Gotta cement down the Jan (Barrie) and Feb (Burlington, hopefully). At least the March date in Ottawa is happening, but I'm not taking registrations until we get to Jan. Yes , it's the 3rd week/ Saturday in March, just like in 2008 and 2009.
Stay tuned. In the meantime, how about a range report for the new M14 boomstick?

Oh man, you've just made me decide... I'm buying one tomorrow. Now how does one get to attend one of your clinics? I've been considering picking up an M-14 for a while but was unwilling to do all the "homework" with respect to modification, quirks etc. but if I can pick up a great rifle (or the basis of one) for little $$$ and get to learn from an expert in the next few months its a no-brainer!
