Well, finally was able to get in touch with the farmer who had given me permission to turkey hunt - got a jake last year, and it now turns out that he has given some other guys permission and I'm no longer welcome. That sucks.

It is his bro-in-law and neighbours. Last year was the first time that there was any real turkey huntng on his land (ie. me), and I guess now these guys are getting in on the action.

Note to other guys, it pays dividends if you can help the farmer out with a few light chores.

99% of the time they won't even really want your help but by asking and offing it you have a real good chance of getting permission.

For the record, ... yes I do always offer to help with fencng, etc. whenever I get permission to hunt, and also always give some of my game, normally deer, to the landowner.

Well we can expect a lot more turkey hunter pressure in the Ottawa area. I was at the turkey hunting seminar on Saturday & there were about 300 prospective hunters there. There was a seminar scheduled for today also. I consider myself lucky; I have relatives with large farming properties & I have exclusive access. Hope I won't be spending too much time chasing away tresspassers ;) .

There were about 300 on Sunday as well, pretty glad I'm not hunting on crown land!
Wow! that's potentially 600 new turkey hunters for the Ottawa area! I second you on the public land! I wish everyone the best of luck during the season.
