I just mounted a Bushnel Legend on a BLR (308). Now I think it looks kind of goofy. I know there are purists who maintain that no scopes should go on a lever gun, but practicality has it's place. I think this is the perfect excuse to get a new rifle.
Before I show up at hunt camp with this what do you think?

I would ( IMHO) agree with your initial assessment. Beyond which, you've mounted the scope to far to the rear. At least move it forward to the point where the rings are centered in the available space, and if not, even further forward withoud crowding the turret. You want as much eye relief as possible.

If you simply "must" have a scope, (and I assume budget is a concern) why not get something like a Bushnell "Dusk to Dawn" in 1-4 power. Much more appropriate for the majority of deer or moose hunting in Ontario and it will look a lot better on your rifle.

A varmint scope on a bush gun?? Yep it looks a bit goofy and that adjustable objective will cause you all sorts of grief in the bush.

Go to a 1-4.5 or 2-7 variable or a fixed 4 power. There are plent of these scopes on eBay selling for modest amounts.

.................Since when is a .308 a bush gun?? I had a BLR in .308. 250-350 yard shots were cake with it.

.................Scope i had on it was the old 1.75-5x20 Tasco. But as mentioned before, it is a BLR and a sows ear is still a sows ear no matter what you do with it.:D

well,....you can put a frilly dress on a sow....but it's still a pig:p :D ...get a good low power variable compact......2-7etc.....and buy a 223 to put that varmint scope on..:)

It's a 4 X 12 Bushnel Legend.. I had a cheap 4 power fixed on it, but wasn't happy with it. I like the idea of a compact scope or even a red dot. My 22-250 already has a K10 that works great, so I'll leave it be.
That scope on the BLR is mounted that far back because that's the natural position for my eye when I mount the gun to my shoulder.
For the record, my 94 & 336 have iron sights only.
Back to the drawing board!

I like the Legend scopes.... but I think they are too big for a BLR. Best scope I've had on a BLR .308 Win was a Leupold M8 4x. Very handy & looked great.

.................You have redeemed yourself by this statement!!!!:D

.................We won't talk about the fact that i just mounted a 3-9 variable on a 336 in .35 rem last night. :D

I'd mount a Leupold FXII 4x33 on it in low Talley lightweights

scope has alot more eye relief than that legend, so it wont have to be mounted as far back, and therefore, look less ### :)
