I think this is a better option than the Stevens 200.
Cushy pad, removable mag and to me, they shoulder well.
I did the Stevens 200 in 308win for Junior and updated the stock to a laminate.
Probably have over five brown ones into it now, without optics.
If I could turn back time, I would find a used older 98, 1600, A-Bolt or
the like configurations. Better quality on the old gals.

Ardent..didn't mean to get ya "worked up over stuff that doesn't matter" ..sorry....my post tho was in reference to woodlotowner advising to stay away from the cheap savages. MHO is that they can't be beat for the price and we've found that they ARE accurate. I'm stickin to my guns on this one...cheap savages too :D

Get the 270, if that's what you want. I have used both cartridges, and hunting, the 270 will do anything the 308 will do, and more!

I have killed huge AK-Yukon bull moose, bears, caribou, sheep, deer, varmints, etc, with the 270, and no problem whatsoever. Scores of them, at ranges from 25 feet to over 600 yd, and most with a single shot.

You won't regret having a 270.

Mild, you just need to practice like any cartridge. My 110lb wife can shoot my .375 H&H no problem, so below the true bruisers- Ultra Mags, African big bores (.450's+ etc), one only need approach a rifle with the mindset that you want to learn it and you can shoot it.

Frankly, I'd bet I can't differentiate between .270 recoil and .308 recoil if I were dull enough to shoot blindfolded and I own both. :)
 
I agree, there is little, if any difference in recoil. The 270 may be a bit less in rifles of equal weight and similar stock design.

There is a considerable difference in trajectory, which makes hits at extended ranges somewhat easier with the 270.
