So I broke down and ordered one of these from Questar. This is what is suppose to look like. So when it gets here I will post real pictures and maybe do a range report.

Beautiful pistol. I own a P226 Elite .40 S&W (I have two conversion barrels in 9mm and .357 Sig to go with it) and a P229 Stainless SAS DAK in .40 S&W. You will be pleased with your Sig.

Did you have to order the 106 mm barrel ($268) to go with the P229 as Questar makes you order it separately from the pistol I believe? Remember, the P229 comes with a 3.9" barrel in the US, which obviously we can't use in Canada unless you have a Prohibited class PAL.

For your questions yes the gun is the stainless model. Secondly yes I had to pay the $268 for the 106mm barrel. Now I have a long wait since I phoned and asked yesterday about how long it would take and they said the last order took 6 months. :(

Even if you have a prohibited class (12-6) PAL you CANNOT import a prohibited class firearm! You can only buy or trade an already registered prohibited gun, in other words a used one. So, you have to buy the 106 mm barrel otherwise you can only enjoy it in pictures :-(

They cannot be imported even if you hold a 12(6).(dang slow trigger finger LOL)
Do they give you a rebate for the barrel they take off or it is already accounted for in the price????

That's what I meant to say but didn't say it the way it should have been said, lol. You're right, you have to buy the 106 mm barrel even if you have a 12.6 PAL. You can only buy or trade an already registered Prohibited class firearm.

I have the P229 Equinox in 40 S&W and the Cdn. version comes with the barrel that sticks out the slide about 1/2". The American version is flush. If you order a custom holster tell them if the bottom is closed over or the gun will be to long. I got a Comp-tac for mine and they left the bottom open. Cheers

Wait a minute. So you guys are saying that a 9mm P229SSE from Questar is actually $1350.00 + $268.00 = $1618.00 plus tax, plus shipping, plus 6 months??

That is insane.

I don't think it is. Even with my weak Google-fu, I just found another 229SSE for $1399 with no mention of buying a seperate barrel. (In fact, I've bought a rebarreled prohib from them before.) This "barrel sold seperately" thing rubs me the wrong way, especially because I'm pretty darn sure that SIG sends out guns destined for Canada with a legal barrel already...

I ordered a Sig P229 and indeed you have to add the price of a new barrel (106 mm) with a choice of Sig, Bar-Sto etc. at various prices. However, the additional cost of the barrel is less than the cost listed for a barrel alone, in other words you get a "discount" of sorts. You still weep over the final price but you'll shed fewer tears than paying the full price of gun and replacement (extended) barrel. Small consolation.

If you don't mind me asking, who'd you get it through? Questar is the only retailer I've seen that does it, check out TSE (who lists the one I mentioned) or P&D, who, IIRC when I was looking, doesn't do it either.

I paid $1250.00 for my Sig 229 DA/SA in December 2007.
Prices have gone up though our dollar has gained strength.
I never paid for the longer barrel, it was included in the cost along with 2 mags.

I do believe it was part of a run of 90 pistols or thereabouts back then.

Mine came from Al Simmon's gun Shop in Hamilton ON.
I do believe it was Questar who imported them, or one of the larger importers.
