Just ordered my Tavor today the waiting game begins

Well finally got my Tavor out to a range today, put about 290 rounds through it. I'm pretty impressed, much more comfortable to hold than my C7A1 (however likely due to smaller stature and shorter arms, C7A2 may solve that one day). Recoil was nice and controllable . Should be a fun for the future.

The "Tavor Mark" was a little more pronounced than I expected! By the time I was done, my right eye glass of my shooting glasses was covered at the bottom, to the point it made my vision blurry lol. Also left a nice black mark on my cheek below the glasses. How the devil do Israeli soldiers deal with this?

I tried one and the Ammonia? from the gasses kind of made my right eye burn when I fired rapid fire. It was Fiochi ammo. I wonder if a different ammo might have a more agreeable smoke.......... I really prefer the aroma of black powder:)

On another note: I was whatching a show on Discovery and they were re-enacting the attempted capture of the drug lord, Pablo Escobar. The tactical responce guy's where all packing Tavors with the standard Mepro sight.

You guys experienceing 'Tavor burn' - are you shooting indoors, and how much ammo are you throwing down range? I have heard about this a number of times, but I have not experienced this phenomena myself. Granted I have only shot outdoors (and from a 3 sided shack with roof) using handloads burning H335. As of yet I have also not done too much rapid shooting with the rifle either...
 
I shoot from a three sided building with american eagle ammo. Only have eye burn on rapid fire. I'd hate to see what it's like to do full auto mag dumps ..... you'd be half blind by the end.
 
I tried the hybrid saftey glasses that seal to the face with foam. They work well but when it is cold out fogging can be an issue. I would imagine the military probably uses somthing similar as they have to protect thier eyes from all sorts of fragments. Full auto without glasses would be nasty......
 
I shot the 290 rounds slowly, throughout the course of the day at an outdoor range. Due to the glasses (Revision Eyewear Sawfly) I never even noticed or felt the gasses/powder until someone pointed it out and I noticed the fogging by the end of the day (not fogging, actual powder lol).

Also shooting American Eagle. Will be doing my own reloads next so we'll see if that does anything.

The lube idea does sound plausible, especially with all the lube leaking out on the left side ejection cover. I'll give it a good cleaning, light lube and we'll see.

Funny; Ive never noticed that, also shooting from within a 3 sided shack, but I was shooting winchester white box and ran a bore brush thru every 50rds during break in day (300rds)...maybe the cleaning removed the factory oil? Did you guys clean your Tavor's before shooting them? I thought you were supposed to clean any rifle before you shot it incase it has storage lube everywhere (?)
 
Well...that sounds like a test if I ever heard one...perhaps tomorrow shall be renamed "take your tavor to the range and see how fast you can dump 50 rounds thru her Day" ...just to see if I get tavor eye :dancingbanana:
 
The Tavor mark is a blessing, once you have been marked the Tavor owns you and you can never hide......run children run..fear the Tavor...hahahahahaha

Hey Guys,

I have to install the factory rear flip up sight on my Tavor and was wondering which way the pin went through. Is the retaining pin e-clip visible when shooting the rifle or does the pin go through so the e-clip is installed in front between the mount and the M21 sight?

ezkmo: Well, it's a tough call. The FS2000 is definitely more accurate than my Tavor was (that's not my Tavor in the pic above), it runs cleaner & is easier to clean, has front ejection which I love and is ambidextrous right out of the box.

The Tavor can be fully converted to left hand use (it is definitely NOT ambidextrous as is stated on the website) assuming the LH bolts aren't vaporware (has anyone ever actually seen one in Canada?), has drop free mags, last shot bolt hold open and is currently a bit less expensive.

Assuming they were both in stock and ready to ship, and the LH bolt was actually available I think my choice would be the Tavor. I love the way the FN shoots and ejects, but with the cocking handle on the left side and no bolt hold open it's too fiddly for me to change mags and chamber a round. If I were right handed however I'd pick the FS2000 in a heartbeat and wouldn't give the Tavor a second thought. YMMV of course.
