so i fell victim to boredom and a credit card. i just ordered a H&R ultra-light slug gun. want to use somthing a little more up close and personal during spring bear.:nest: . then i started thinking about my deer hunting areas. you can bairly see 100yrds and anygivin time so good range for the slug gun.

now my questing is can i run the odd target load down the tube for grouse. i understand it will scatter like mad with no choke. but will the plastic wad or any part damage the rifleing in the bearrel?

also anyone with slug hunting experance feel free to share.

thanks

It will spread like crazy but if your target is close should be ok. How would plastic harm a barrel? You may have to scrub a bit to clean residue in the rifling, but the next sabot slug should remove that.

I can't see that it could hurt anything, but if the performance of the once-common .22LR shot loads is any indication, you're going to get some weird shot patterns, lots of holes.

i dont to pack to guns. getting within 20 ft of grouse aint hard. now that i know it wont hurt the gun any i guess ill have to pattern it when i get out and see what the results are

Dont try shooting anything further than 10 yards or you are just going to injure it.

Check youtube and I am pretty sure there is a thread on here with detailed pictures from targets at different ranges that show you how useless shooting shot out of a rifled barrel really is.
