QUESTION:

I picked up an assortment of ammo, but can anybody tell me what the 1 in 10 twist heavy barrels like the best for 100-300 range work?

Wow! thats some nice equipment you picked up. Congratulations! :)

I would suggest instead of buying commmercial ammo, spend the cash on reloading equipment. Its too much fun to explain in an internent post. If you reload already then ignore this.

Let us know how you like your new stuff when you have had a chance to play. :)

Having a rifle like yours and not reloading is like owning a Mercedes AMG 63 and buying yours tires at Walmart... JP.

I think I might get off my a$$ and get reloading! In the meantime, its bending over and spending inflated prices for quality commercial stuff.

Even there paying high premium for quality ammo you wont even come close of the capability of your rig with handloaded ammo... JP.

But just like drfting a Benz on Walmart tires, it would be fun either way. :)

If you've got the time, reloading can usually produce excellent results and you get to buy more stuff!

I'm sold guys. I agree I should start reloading. And yes, I have an excellent rig with huge capabilities. However, I will be satisified with sub-MOA results. Whether or not I get .25 or .75 inch groupings is not my main concern right now. I own a plethora of quality hunting rifles that don't give me nearly those results (even after big $$ investments), hence the reason I bought this purpose-built beast. I haven't fired her yet, but I am already like a kid in a candy store. This Savage just bleeds quality. After owning numerous Remington and Marlin duds, its nice to see an American company stand up to the plate and offer a great rifle out-of-the-box. I must have handled 15 different precision rifles, and this was definitely the nicest of the bunch.

It is addicting if you make a few .25 groups with a certain load you will never ever be happy with a .75 after that, sorry that the way it goes when you are hooked... JP.

ouch $450 more than I paid at Cabellas...

Well, I got 15% off everything. So, overall, with the Elite 6500 scope (mounted and laser bore-sighted), 2-rifle hard case (which just fits this beast), and 100 rounds of ammo (Hornady A-Max, SST, Remington Scirocco), I saved $428.07. So I think I did pretty good -- of course, it was still uber expensive.

But for all month of June you get a 15% member reduction so the BA come up to 1647.00 that is a good price and they still have a few in stock at least yesterday they did when i got my SR-22... JP.

I got the last one yesterday early afternoon at the Markham Lebaron. :D

There could be one at the Mississauga Lebaron, I am not sure.
