I thought the first rule of shooting a skunk was to not let the truck come to a full stop during the process...just step on the clutch and coast while you whack Pepe, then slip the clutch and flee the scene as quickly as prudent.

Been there, done that with my Big Red and a pellet gun! Surprisingly it worked!

That would be illegal as hell in every jurisdiction I've ever hunted in Canada, shooting from a moving motorized vehicle............really BUM, and you of all people..........you should be ashamed of yourself !!!

This activity Ladies and Gentlemen can cost you your truck/car, everything in it, your rifle/shotgun, any ammo you may have with you and any other firearms you may have with you, as well as a significant amount of money in fines and lawyers and a significant number of years banned from hunting in that territory or province.
Although I'm certain BUM was joking, this is a very serious charge and most certainly should never be advocated as acceptable behavior on an open forum such as this, with at least some readers who wouldn't necessarily know better.
Not trying to grind you BUM or preach but.............

Under appreciated chambering, i like mine very much. Ruger M77 MkII Varmit/target. Only problem with mine is i need your donkey or a gun bearer to pack it.

For a long range bolt of lightning medium game gun...ideal. Would not be my choice if the problem blackie was raiding the porch freezer.

No freezers on my porch, but I would have no qualms with it, that is one reason I would use the heaviest for caliber bullet available as I expect most of my critter issues to be within 100 yds with coyotes and possibly cougar stretching it to 300 yds. I have no issue with blackies up in the pasture, but I sure as hell do up in my fruit trees, destructive little buggers............
If a particularly large blackie decides to pose any problems, I have a vault just 30 seconds away with no end of larger more suitable calibers...........if needed. But I have faith in a 125 gn bullet in 25 cal to do most any protective and security services I may need.

Sure hope I didn't offend BUM.............
 
My buddies laughed at me bringing a 25/06 to bear camp against their 300 wm's. I shot a 300 lb sow at 80 yards just behind the shoulder. A little high due to ground cover. Aimed for the off shoulder as it angled away slightly. Just flattened her in her tracks. No exit wound nothing left of the bullet shiny specs of copper. but it punched a 5" hole going in thru the ribs breaking 6 ribs and liquefied the lungs and destroyed the top half of the heart and wrecked the spine. My buddies were amazed at the damage. The 3" of fat and hide opened the cxp2 120 gr Winchester Grey box bullet and it exploded inside.
I have no problems using the 25/06 on black bear. I wouldn't try a shoulder shot and have since took up reloading an use better bullets now. It will do very nicely for its intended role. Heavy for caliber bullets may not damaged a cougars pelt as much as a lighter bullet would. I'm not sure as I've never shot a cougar
 
Don't believe everything you hear.Nosler's 115gr Partition relaxes elk and moose just fine with a yard of penetration at 300+ yards..........Harold
