Just purchased a HK P30, now what to do?

Hey Folks,

Just picked up my first restricted the other day, came down to a battle between a P226 and a P30, when I walked in for the Sig turns out the last one they had was purchased a few days prior so I had to "fall back" onto the HK (not such a bad deal if you ask me )

However now I don't know where to go from an accessories/next steps standpoint, I'm looking for a holster to pair with the gun, preferably something like a Serpa style, and also some additional magazines, maybe a light for those "tacticool" days, etc. I'm just curious as to what the more experienced folks would say if they were in my position. Use wise its obviously going to be a range queen for the time being - but I'd like to eventually use it to get into some competitive shooting down the road.

Looking forward to any and all feedback on this, thanks guys!

Congrat's on the HK. I like the P30 over the Sig for my personal style. I usually comb through the EE section for gear, Mags show up occasionally. Usually gear gets traded around pretty quick as most guys like to try something and move on.

Holster:
Blade-Tech
Raven Concealment

Light:
Surefire X300
Surefire X300 Ultra

Magazines:
Wolverine Supplies or order from the U.S.

Don't bother with the Serpa, go for Blade-tech, Comp-tac or a Safariland 567 (the Glock 17 model will fit). You might want to consider upgrading the sights, I found the stock sights OK but too wide. Heinie makes a nice set, there others from Dawson & 10-8 available or in the works too.

Pistol lights are 'cool' but if you are interested in competition I'd spend the light money on ammo and mags myself.

Thanks everyone, I went the Bladetech route and am very happy with the purchase. However now its next to impossible to find magazines for the gun, especially when it seems all the guys down in NY are gobbling up the "low-capacity" (I hate calling it that btw, but IMO its true) magazines. I have until July to get an additional 3, I would hate to run my TDSA course with only two mags.

That is... *cough* unless somebody has some they want to get rid of *cough*

Drop Clobbersaurus a PM, he used to run a P30, he might have a secret source for mags.

PS Be aware, those guns throw empties like they were weapons - have mercy on the guy to your right (ask me how I know)

Wow.... a hundred bucks for a single mag...well that just made the hk p30l be crossed off my list :(

Get some from irunguns. It's 33 bucks from the states, if you arent willing to be proactive with your maintenance of your pistol scratch anything hk off your list right now, they are more expensive and more difficult to support. If you arent interested in the extra effort required, save yourself the trouble.

This x10 - HK's are designed to have preventive maintenance, the importer sucks at parts supply so start trying to source parts after your first trip to the range.

I started before I bought the gun haha. 2 extractor assemblies 2 firing pins, and 1 recoil spring assembly. :)

I am surprised that nobody has asked this important question: Which HK P30L did you buy? The V3 or the V1 LEM?

There is huge difference between these two: While the V3 is a "classical" DA / SA gun, the V1 LEM has a very nice light trigger. I have this latest model (actually HK P30LS, with safety) and it became my favorite handgun; the fit in my hand, balance, recoil, sights, mag release are all at the top but it is its light trigger which makes the V1 LEM really super.

In terms of accessories, Blackhawk has some nice holsters (the carbon fibre one especially). Any decent light/laser would do. Mags: try Al Simmons in Hamilton, ON.
