I am going to start out using the 168 grain Sierra match bullets. I will be using cci bench rest primers.
What have those of you that are reloading for .308 precision shooting using for powder.
(I am not looking for the charge, that is dependant on the gun...what powder are you using?
I currently use MIR 4320 for the wife's Tikka and BLC -2 for my M-14. I was thinking perhaps Varget because I use it for my precision. 22530th, but wanted some opinion ions from the f class guru's.

Varget is a good choice for 168, you'll quickly find a great shooting load. Others that work very well are IMR 4064, IMR 4895 and H4895 to name a few. .308 is very versatile with powder selection. Varget will probably give you best velocity at your high speed node with 168s over the others but thats no rule.

IMHO the powders listed are excellent. After a lot of experimenting I found W748 with CCI 250 primers to be the most consistent under all conditions in three different rifles. They included a Springfield Armory M1A National Match, Nobby Uno built Remington 700 with a Hart match grade barrel and presently a Remington 700 with a match grade, fluted, 1-12 twist Shilen.

I would also use Remington #9 1/2 primers if I could find a useful quantity in Canada. They are almost non existent here.

W748 also works great in an M1 Garand with 150 grain bullets. I like it in the Garand because pressures are relatively low with the 150 grain fmj bullets I have and the fill density is almost perfect while still maintaining proper velocities.

What range? The 168smk are unstable in the transsonic zone. If you shoot less than 500m its fine, otherwise get the 175tmk

Thanks guys for all your input. I will be working my way out (the ranges here don't go passed 300 gotta find a log out that has a decent backstop). I will eventually get some 175gr bullets but right now the 168 grain Sierra match is what I have access to. In my neck of the woods picking is slim for everything.
