I have some 2 3/4 " 00 and 000 to try out as soon as I can get back out to the range.

But reading the defense thread has me too curious to wait.

What kind of spread does this shot give at ~ 25 yds? A foot....two?

Depends on your choke...I have it in a book somewhere around, I'll look it up if nobody knows off the top of their head.

cylinder bore choke "00" will be hard pressed to keep more then a few pellets on the paper at 25 yds..... ditto for "000".

rule of thumb is 1" spread per yard of travel for cylinder bore.

Well that's perfect. I use a modified choke.

That would mean across a room, or down a hall, for defense....most pellets would impact.

Good to about 30 feet.

maybe and maybe not, by compressing the shot charge to modified you may get worse patterns, especially with "000".

there is a reason why most police guns are Improved Cylinder.... every shotgun is an individual, you must pattern it with a selection of loads to find out what works best for YOUR gun.

I would highly suggest for "things that go bump" that you get some reduced recoil "00" remington if you can find it..... that will work the best in your gun and consistently outperforms other rounds in group size.

shot a few 00 buck today at the range.

At 25 yds not all pellets were on a 8.5" X11" piece of paper.... usually 5 or 6 of them. Quite telling.

When I get a chance I'll try from 10 yds or so.
