Just Reminiscing- Remember when we could hunt with the AR ?

Even the non-black guns bring back good memories. Just after joining the workforce going into K-mart and buying a Winchester semi model100 for $160. No papers, no waiting. Getting $10 knocked off because of a small dent in the stock. No box, just carry it out under my arm.

A pal who had no car so he hitch-hiked out of town to go duck hunting. Hitched back in and had to buy stuff on the way home so strolls through the mall with his shotgun on his shoulder. No one gave a second look.

we had a wild life program at my high school. i use to take the yellow bus with a least 10-15 kids with shootgun everymorning

I remember picking up my first FAC at Surrey RCMP (in Cloverdale!). The registrar took my application and $10.00 and said "come back tomorrow -make it the afternoon, I'm going to be late tomorrow." The next day I showed up at 1:00 pm he saw me walk in, grabbed my FAC and said "here you go." I asked him if he needed to see my driver's license again and he said, "no -its not like you're a criminal or something" That is a direct quote. It's just great remembering when you weren't suspicious because you wanted to shoot. Incidently, first gun ever was a police surplus Walther PP in .32 ACP from Lever - $150

Unfortunately I never had the common sense to get an AR before they were restricted, moron. That said I remember buying my rem 1100 and 7mm mag from Giant Tigre on the Byward market, in Ottawa no less and taking them home on the bus. How times have changed, Liberals are cancer.

I remeber the F.A.C. process exactly the same Ian. But I remember going into Can Arm in Redmonton and buying that MG42 that was sitting on the counter for the 2 years before that just waiting for me to make enough money to buy it. 1200 was a lot for a 16 yr old. Wish I still had it.

A co-worker friend form the interior of BC said something similar. For gym class, one event was going trap shooting, so they load up a bus with 15 and 16 year olds, most with a shotgun of some sort, and off they went. No death, no drama, just good clean fun.

Gotta build that time machine.

I remember when I bought my first pistol, and I transported it from the gunshop to the copshop to my home in an old shoebox, sans triggerlock, in the front seat of the car. Can't do THAT anymore...

Living in Toronto, I remember buying my first 22 (a CIL) at a local hardware store - strangely enough in the Jane and Finch area we hear so much about. I also remember taking the Jane bus to Sheppard, with that same 22 - without a case -to Base Downsview to shoot on the range in the basement of the rec center. I would get off at the gate, be given the once over by the MP's (who would tell me to make sure I did not point it at any one and be safe) then go to the range.

The same was the case when I would go to the skeet range with my Remington 870. It was a different day and a different Canada.

I took my first White-Tail Deer with an HK-91 back in 1991, just before the stupidity started. I remember buying a Century Arms-imported Brit FN L1A1 for $119.

I still have both of them (among others), although they are now harvesting nothing more than dust-bunnies thanks to Lieberal paranoia....

The more I think about it, the more I sincerely despair for the future of Canada if the two-faced criminal scum-bags manage to get themselves re-elected by the urban fools......

If the polls hold, then maybe we will all be going:

It is creepy to think that 2015 is 9 years away, 1985 seems so long ago.

I can beat that... really I can!

Bought an ex OPP Smith Model 10 at Lebarons in Nepean ON... they didn't have a box so put it in a brown (used!) lunch bag... sans trigger lock. Promptly brought it to the OPP shop, the firearms officer on this day was the stand in who knew NOTHING about guns, he took it out of the bag and blurted out "OH! I know what that is! It's a police special!" No word of a lie. He was relieved that it was something he recognized. And yes, this is back when they carried Smith model 10's.

He dutifully pulled out the manual on how to do firearms verifications, checked the serial number, measured the bbl, and sent me on my way with it, after he filled out the tortuous triplicate temporary transport permit (which took him longer than the other tasks).

And guys, doesn't seem that long ago... was in the early 90's (I would have to check the reg certificate to find the exact date when I bought it and I am far too lazy to do that right now).

It wasn't all roses, one day I brought in a Ruger Super Redhawk complete with 9.5" tube and Leopold 2x scope and the stand-in firearms officer was some HUGELY obese sargeant with an equally loud mouth, and just about crapped his pants when he opened the case (yes this was later when cases were required) and loudly exclaimed "guns... why the hell do people want guns anyway". He liked to cuss every second word and let it be known in a loud manner that he hated verifying handguns.

Yea, I remember that.

Back in the day, the first AR-15 I ever saw was in a gun rack on mainstreet. On a BICYCLE. I kid you not. The guy that owned it had a home-made rig that he clipped it to on his bike when he was on his way out to shoot gophers.

I remember one of our neighbors used to keep a Steyr AUG in the cab of his tractor for coyotes. Another had a Galil. .223 was king of pest and predator control rifles in those days.

I remember seeing the .223 Norinco AK for $250 in the S.I.R. catalog and wanting to buy it. I didn't because my dad said it was "a crap gun". Later, I got a Mini-14 instead :D

I remember taking my Deawoo ground hog hunting at my uncles farm then it was a bren then an mg 34 then an mg42 those damn ground hogs it takes a bit of firepower to get rid of them now all CA's are sitting in a damn safe waiting to be fired again .I had just picked up aFnC2 and a vickers when the sap #### hit the fan now I hardley even look at them or the others .hopefully that will change on the 23rd and if so Harper better not forget who were the parties best supporters .

I remember the extremely sad day that I had to take my AR15 down to the police station to register it because of that POS Kimmy, man that b*tch is an idiot. The AR15 made a great gopher gun, very good accuracy and 20 rounds in the mag in case you missed and they charged.

My Dad reminded me of the time when he was younger and had a Select fire German rifle. And the time spent at the Garbage dump shooting rats. Real fun was to be had at night with a car; stand next to the car and turn on the lights and shoot as many as you can before they scatter.

It was always a hoot when a uncle would show up with the Bren gun. But that attracted the Constabulary much quicker than the smaller firearms.

Well, I'm a young guy, and even I remember an older buddy walking into Home Hardware, with his .22 in hand to buy more ammo for gophers. He didn't wan't to leave his gun in the truck, clerk didn't even care the least, nor did any customers. This was in southern Alberta in the 90's, and is probably still kosher in a good few places. Try that in Ontario...
