I'm planning on pickin up a Jrc for myself for Xmas. I deserve it I've been good enough. However I am stuck about what caliber to get. 9mm or 40 SW. I will probably buy the conversion eventually when they're back in stock. The 40 spits a bigger heavier bullet making it useful for calling coyotes and wolves in thick timber where several could appear at once all in close range. Either could be used for grouse and rabbits. The 9 mm makes more sense because I have a 9 mm pistol as well so I could stock up on bulk ammo for plinking. 40 SW isn't that much more though.
So before I flip a coin I thought I'd ask here for opinions first. With the possibility of hunting small game up to coyote an wolf for 1 or 2 weeks a year what caliber would you choose 9mm or 40 SW?
It will NOT be used for deer. All shots will be under 50 yards. Most likely 30 or less

I just ordered a 9mm for the reasons you mentioned, Slightly cheaper ammo and I already own 9mm handguns. I don't plan to hunt with mine though.

I chose 9mm and never looked back. Cheaper ammo. I really like it.

You already have a 9mm , so....
The choice would be obvious to avoid confusion when buying powder and other components.
Buy the 9mm and be done with it and have fun.
You dont say what 9mm pistol you have but the mags might even be a done deal if they are one and the same allowing the interchangeability between firearms.

I have a 1911. 9 mm. I do not like glock pistols. 9mm should be Ok for what I'd ask of it. Just wondering if the 40 offers any distinct advantage being heavier and wider

Get the 9. I tried one out at the Mission range recently. It had a red dot sight and I had no problem hitting the 200 meter gong. 20 rounds, 20 thunks.
