just shot my chrony

Yep; the wads pack up a good wallop at that distance!
I always make sure the gun is centered on the benchrest and sandbags and do a boresighting before placing the phototripod and the chrony in the path.
It allows your rifle to be zeroed on the target before putting the chronograph into battery. A tripod with adjustable center column helps.

thanx Daniel
ha ha ha......what a crappy shot:p you only wounded it:p

I use one width of duct tape (horizontally) about half way up connecting the rear rods (Chrony) holding the diffuser panel. I began this process after reading about similar destruction incidents. It gives me a safe aiming point and haven't harmed anything at this point. If I try a scoped rifle, I will raise the tape an inch or two to compensate for parallax....works for me! I don't need another $125+ replacement item. Cheers, Mule

crony pictures

let me add these pictures with a explanation.

My crony (old model with no RODS/WIRES), you just shoot the length of it and check readout for info.

Lexan shield was nicked by cast 6.5x55 while the gas check(which weighs almost nothing) fractured completely through.

Pitted and rusty area caused by black powder shooting (quicker cleaning may have reduced damage a lot).

Fatal blow caused by 130+ year old rifle in 44-40, which is an excellent crony hunting calibre.

My crony gave many years of service till its final day.

damn.... that's a messed up looking chrony Sgt!!! :D :D :D
I bought a brand new Master Beta Chrony yesterday.... can't wait to start measuring out my loads.....:) :) :)

I built a shield for a buddies chrony......Piece of angle steel in front of the chrony....deflects low shots down...You can't see the readout till you walk up to it....either turn the chrony sideways or just peak behind the steel plate....Works great.
Russ...

I don't know if this counts or not, but I got one of the sky screens from my Ohler 35P with a 380 gr slug from my .375. Made a dead center hole in the top edge of the plastic holder, but did not damage the photo eye...now that's shootin!

You line up on low power or better yet look down the bore, safely centered. First load, move right on to the next target for the next load, hey we're at 100m,do that a couple of times and the rods have copper tracings.

Well, thats not very sporting is it! If that caught on, threads like this would be out of business, and what would we talk about around here?!

crony pics

glad to see i am not the only person up and on-line with CGN this early in the AM .Perhaps we could ask the crony repair department to let us post their photos of dead crony's?

I haven't shot my chrony yet and I've owned it for a few years. I always zero the rifle first before using the chrony. If a friend wants to use it, I tell him that 'you shoot it, you've bought it'. Not too many people want to use it after that. I also shoot high over the chrony and then bring it down until I'm getting good readings.

I sympathize with you guys. It's always easier to shoot a chrony than the target down range!

danny boy it was the rods not the phone wire and the welding rod worked great
and im a bit more careful it was a close call

I tagged my first crony 3 times before it stopped, the last one was a one shot kill and I really have no idea why I smile at that.

todbartell

You have just cursed yourself! LOL There are only two kinds of Chrony owners. Those that have hit them and those who are poor shots.

Take Care
