nominal size of bore in Steyr M95 is .329
slug that came ouf of my M95 bore came out to be .337

now, since i cant size bullet out of C329-205-1R to .337
can i use C338-220-1R sized down to .337?

i also sluged M48 and it came out to be .330-can i use C329-205-1R and size it down?

You won't know until you try, but I'd expect problems with excessive neck diameter when using a bullet that much over spec. With cast you can go .338-.340 in a .337 bore, but even if you can get a bullet of that diameter into the cartridge without problems, you might not be able to chamber it without opening the chamber neck up with a .338 Neck Reamer. Similar situation with the M48, just different numbers.

BTW - of course you can take a chamber cast, but you can also determine chamber neck diameter by "slugging" it. Cut a piece of hardwood dowel to the length of the cartridge minus the neck, and force the lead slug into the correct spot by closing the bolt on it (takes some effort).

That's interesting, I just acquired an M95 and plan to slug the barrel as well. It would be great if I could use .338 bullets. At this point I don't even know for sure what cartridge its chambered for since my literature indicates it could be any one of four. I'll probably have to get a chamber cast made as well.

I've never done either of these procedures. Does anyone know of a site that provides instructions that any dummy could follow?

OK-i didnt slug the neck (too lazy  ) but i did next best thing.
i took one of the shells from corrosive ammo,i resized it (decap pin removed) and loaded 338 bullet in withoult anything in the case (dummy round)

i tried how it works on chamber so--> in it goes NO PROBLEM
i did the same thing with another 4 rounds, loaded enbloc,
into the rifle and worked the bolt-->again NO PROBLEM

bullets are sitting nice and tight in the cases, only thing is that i cant get sitting die adjusted so i get same bullet protrusion on all rounds-
i think Lee dies are made to tighter tollerances than M95 chamber and bullet is being stuck in neck before reaches bullet stop
maybe cotton swab of case lube wil fix it?ill find out next time

i got 50 rds ready for test drive saturday :D
ill see what happends
