Just sold my Python for $800 cdn

Just think a guy could almost have two S&W 686's for the same money.

Ya, and then he would have 2 guns that actually work, rather than one over priced gun that doesn't.:p:D

Sorry, I'm just a big S&W fan. I owned the first stainless Python in Canada. Bought it from Rex Endicott, aka King Enterprises, in Bellingham. I think it was around 1982ish. That was prior to him getting nabbed for all the smuggling he was doing.

It looked great, but was a piece 'o crap to shoot. Spit all the time and couldn't get it to time properly. Replaced the firing pin 2 times in the same summer, cause they just broke during dry firing and went flying out the barrel. And of course with the normal Colt V main spring I just didn't like the way the action 'stacked' right near the end.

Don't get me wrong, I've also owned a couple blued Pythons, and loved them for the shear beauty. But if you want to shoot them, the Smith and Wesson 686 will out perform the Python.

Sorry to jump on the original reason for this post.

I think if you got the money you were asking for with no fuss, no muss, it was a good deal.

A few years ago I sold my Colt Python " Hunter" 8" with the scope in the original box and all here on CGN ( can't recall who bought it ). I think I sold it for $1200 which I know was a great deal for somebody because the hunter is very rare , at least in Canada .
It was deadly accurate too :)

You could say I miss it but I hope it went to a good home ;)

Rex Endicott, now there is a name I haven't heard for a while. That was some little shop/home he had.

Even in my skinny days, I had to turn sideways most of the time so I wouldn't knock stuff off his shelves in the living room/retail area.

I spent a lot of money at his place back in the day.

If You had sold it to me the price was right on, ( these are overpriced)
but as you did not sell it to me you could have got more,
but over the years I have sold some rare guns way to cheap at time
because I did not check price out, no internet back in the dark ages.
I love these things, but as some have said , the s-w have nices triggers .:(

I just sold my Colt Stainless 6" Python for $800. cdn Its in excellent condition, Should I have as for more, or am was it fair?

For that plus another $700 I'll sell you my Royal Blue 6" Python. Does that answer your question? Sometimes it pays to ask that before selling...

Regarding your comment about S&W triggers...Iwasn't that impressed with them after my Python until I recently bought a 27-2 with wide trigger and hammer. Don't know if it was worked on but it easily equals the Python for weight, smoothness and predictability of knowing when the hammer will drop.

I wish I would have know, I hear it is a hot item a lot of people look for.

If you keep at it you will run across a good deal someday. I hope it's "good" rather than taking advantage because I believe the saying about karma. I got a really good deal last year on a 3 screw Super Blackhawk. Last week I gave a kid a great deal on my 1976 Impala because I knew he "understood" about old cars. I like to think life balances out if we don't get too greedy.

My 60's vintage Highway Patrolman has about the same trigger characteristics as the Python. The newer Smith's are pretty good but not on the same level as the Python or an older S&W...
