About whether or not I could change my barrel on my savage weather warrior from a 7mmsaum to a 300wsm. can this be done by just buying a new barrel or do I have to change the action , bolt, and other stuff.

7mm will do anything the .30 will. Keep the SAUM, buy some brass.

I have brass, I was just wondering how easy it would be and I always had a hankering for the big .300!
I would like to push a heavier bullet a little faster.

Numrich had barrels, so did Brownells, or you can get them from a Canadian barrel maker, RK Smith, Gaillard, etc. - dan

That's the beauty of the Savage system - buy a blank and have it threaded and chambered. Use the barrel nut and a go gauge to set the headspace and voila - a whole new rifle. Want a different bolt face? Just get a new bolt head from Brownells or Midway and voila again. Buy a long action and you can do damned near anything. You might need a few mag boxes to ensure proper feeding but why not, given the price of a Savage (or dare I suggest it - a Stevens) to use as a platform?

I saw one on the Campfire that the guy had made some insane number of barrels for. I believe the number was 100 or more. Imagine trying to keep that all straight. Now that's a dedicated Rifle Loony!
