Still lots of milsurp deals, friend of mine asked where to start and that's what I suggested. He picked up a M38+case of ammo for a few hundred bucks.

These guns were built with the most expensive raw materials the world has everseen earlier this year when the us dollar was low and now it has gone back up. The raw materials were cheaper if you were buying them in any currency other than the US dollar last year. Copper as an example was selling for $350/ton last June now it's less than $150. Every other commodity did the same thing as oil last year.

I was seriously considering a Rem Mtn LSS in 280 from Epps last week when it was listed at $899. I guess I should have made a faster decision! "Adjusting" prices to match inflation is one thing, but they're pricing themselves out of contention for sales.

I can't figure out why these LSS models that have been in stock for 2 years have increased 30%. These are NIB, but they've been on the shelf for at least 2 years...

Exactly what I was thinking. I had my eye on them when they were $975 and then they were reduced to $899 so I was thinking that I would pick one up. Next thing you know the 3 that they have listed are up to $1250. So they couldn't sell them at $975 or at $899 so their logic is to jack them up to $1250!

Most retailers raise prices across the board when new inventory comes in at higher prices. Otherwise you have the SPS for $800 and the LSS at $899 and this would totally confuse the customer:rolleyes:

I don't know about the rest of the country - or even here in BC now - but it used to be illegal to raise the price on items already in inventory. Only newly-received product could be sold at higher prices. Difficult to the customer to prove that serial #123456 was bought in September 2008 at the lower (wholesale) price and #45678 in December 08, of course, without going to court.

It's never been illegal to raise your prices on inventory anywhere. Would you think the gun store was wrong if they hadn't lowered prices on older inventory when the prices went down.

The manufacturers had costs go up dramatically over the past 18 months, they are probably back down where they were but they bought the stuff they needed to make these guns last year.

I think your numbers are low and are missing a zero.

The thing to keep in mind is that the cost of the materials tanked in late 2008 and by then the guns were already made and likely on their way. Not their fault the prices tanked just after that. I am recycling brass for a rifle range and one week I could get $2/lb for clean brass and my next drop 2 weeks later I got $0.50/lb. So they should sell at below cost? Sorry, it doesnt work that way in the real world although cranking the prices on stuff that is old stock not selling already is kinda stupid too.

They'll keep em at $1250 for a while, then reduce to $1000 or so to trick someone into thinking they are getting a deal. Happens all the time across the retail industry.

Epps lost my sale on a Tikka a short last month when they jumped the price!
I shopped around & found one not only at the old price but on sale :):)

I don't understand the logic on raising the price on any merchandise that's not selling??
