just wondering here, 37mm launcher is legal in Canada ?

They are restricted firearms. The RCMP decided a few years ago that because they can fire 12 gauge shotgun shells through an adapter they are a restricted firearm.

The Americans now have an HE grenade that comes out at better than 600fps. That alone would put all 40mm launchers way into the firearm classification.

Is there a source for this? Not that I'm doubting you, that just sounds ridiculous.
Name me one firearms law that isn't ridiculous.

They are now classed as restricted firearms, this is fact. I don't have the source in front of me but you can look it up if you don't believe me.

Just for reference, here is the "Additional Notes" info listed in the FRT for the M203 LMT single shot Grenade Launcher:

- single shot, grenade launchers are normally Non-Restricted when it is in a configuration for mounting on another firearm.
- when the grenade launcher is combined with a folding or telescoping stock it may becomes a "restricted firearm" as per Part III/Firearms and Other Weapons of Section 84 (1) (c) of the Criminal Code "a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise".

- this model of grenade launcher meets the definition of "firearm" in the Criminal Code of Canada S. 2.
- there are Federal Acts other than the Criminal Code which apply to these items such as the provisions of the Controlled Goods Act and the Defence Production Act.
- Natural Resources Canada has a vested interest in the natures of ammunition employed by these grenade launchers, which fall under the ambit of the Explosives Act.

For the LMT M203 there are 4 child entries (2 different barrel lenghts and 2 mounting versions)... 2 of the 4 child entries are listed as non-restricted and 2 are listed as restricted.

The real issue is that they are all now affected by CGD (Controlled Goods Directorate) regulations which make them a real pain in the ass to own.

These CGD regulations don't apply to the 37mm launchers which are smooth bore and not affected by the same CGD issues.

I have this type The person who had it before me hogged it out to 40mm it is fun to lobe the plastic rounds down range with it. Not sure if I am keeping it it or moving to the under barrel type
