JW-21 Lever action(pics added)

the action is a little stiff, but at the same time it does not look oiled, maybe a quick spot or too here and their and she will be back in her prime, i will repost on how it shoots later

a little oil and a 12 year old girl could pump it now, its like cutting warm butter, if some one else knows of a tube feed lever action 22 for 200 let me know , also dont tell anyone else, haha

I, too await range result...

After finding a Norinco JW21 and a Browing BL22 side by side at the gun shop, cycling the action is DEFINITELY different. The Browning is snick-snick. The norinco is more like ka-klunk-ka-kliunk.

BUT.... how does it shoot? How does it hold up to endless afternoons of gopher shooting with a drop of oil here and there and a swab of the barrel here and there?

We all know what to expect of the Browning - that with care and attention just slightly above the "negligence" level, it will last for decades and shoot a tighter group than I can shoot without a rest.

I hereby demand (ok plead and beg and snivel and hope) that you run a few thousand rounds through the norinco, and report the results here by Friday...

Or maybe I should just get off my keester and do the test myself... $200... how wrong can I go? Thats just a bad few hours of getting drunk and stupid...

If I get brave and do it, I'll report results here...

Norinco on the shelf at Heartland....

At Heartland sports in Stettler, they have the Norinco for $239.

I think that will be close to the $198 + shipping from Marstar.

Now to pry the $cash$ out of my dust-encrusted quart sealers in the cellar... and go pick the thing up...

If I get it home this forum will be the first place I put my range results. I've a box of SuperX just waiting to cut some paper...

i shot the gun twice now , its great, the action is working its self in more and more, i used a 20 yard pistol target and i said i would stop shooting when i shot outside the 5 ring, i shot almost 100 rounds and i could not put it outside the 5 ring, i almost shot out the inner circle, this is from our standard indoor 25 yard shot,i will post a pic of the target when i get a chance.

Forgive my ignorance...

I don't know what your "5 ring" and "indoor pistol target" is...

Sooooo... as I read it, you were 25 yards away from the target, and shooting consistently inside a circle how big?

Yes, I bought my Norinco JW 21 Monday June 22 at Heartland Sports in Stettler, I guess their new name is "Battle River Sports and Tackle", paid $248 tax-and-all in. Now I'm looking for a 'scope. Any suggestions?

I've got a full brick of Super-X 22lr and half a brick of Imperial 22S just waiting to test things out. For sighting-in, I use a 30 yard distance - thats my most common gopher distance - and about the limit of my ability to hand-hold a rifle still enough to hit 'em between the eyes...

I'll post my results...

I think I can say I got a better deal than you on a JW-20 on the EE.I got this unfired beauty from a local CGN for 120 dollars and he threw in 2 air rifles which I sold for 50 dollars.

I just got back from Vancouver Island where I fired about a hundred rounds. No misfifes or FTF.Accuracy wasn't quite up to Browning standards, but reliability was.It takes down nicely and stored on my 400 Yamaha bike easily.

I need an air rifle....

Gandalf... Maybe you have one? if so, pm me plz...

Thanks jiggs.

PS congrats on the purchase of the JW 20... hope it works out...

Under 1" at 30 yards

30 yards is my gopher distance...

I use a denim-sack filled with dry field-peas as my rest across the hood of the truck.

After about 15 shots to get my scope where I wanted it the JW21 shot 10 shots in a group under an inch at 30 yards. The scope is an el-cheepo 3-7x tasco 3/4" rimfire scope (with rings) I had laying around taking up space in the safe. The scope seems to work OK, and as long as it continues to do that, I won't be dropping a hundred bucks for a new scope and rings.

The group size might improve if I wasn't using a truck as a rest, and it might improve if I swab the barrel. If the rest of the gun is any indication, it will be covered in that thick axle grease stuff that was smeared everywhere on the gun out-of-the-box.

1" group at 30 yards isn't super-great, but I've seen worse. Lets not condemn the gun until I can get it to a proper range on a proper rest, and expiriment with a much better scope.

When I'm walking around the field plinkin' at gophers, there's no way in h_ I can hand hold a 1" group at 30 yards.

I've carved myself up a walking stick with a grip rest at shooting height, that improves my hold a whole bunch. But the rest-stick can be a three-handed ngihtmare when walking. At least a lever-gun is easier handling than a bolt.

The JW 21 is weird, in that when you click the lever out of the home position, the trigger can still be pulled to drop the hammer. I'm not sure if the cartridge would fire if the lever wasn't fully home and thus the bolt not fully home, but I'm not going to try. Its just that with my Browning BLR 308, you can click the lever out of the home position for another level of safety - on the browning, if the lever isn't all the way home the trigger will NOT drop the hammer. Not so on the Norinco.

All the best, I'll post more when I shoot more.
