Soo...I had an old guy who should know his ####te tell me that:

ANY k-98 with a front sight hood went through Israel. Even if its still 8mm (they used em like that as well) if it has the hood it was used by the Israelis...

True?
False?
Total freekin hog-wash?

IMHO, I think that would be false. I think it depends on who refurbed the K98 on whether or not it has a sight hood. If it is an RC, it shouldn't have a sight hood unless it was added post hoc. The Yugo refurb process left the front sight hood on and I am pretty sure they weren't shipped to Israel and then back to Yugoslavia. Not to mention vet bringbacks....

I think if the rifle has the front sight hood with the two holes on either side, it may have seen some time in Israel. The better id would be an IDF stamp on it or a Star of David marking.

indeed very false statement, pre 40's / 41's made in germany would come with out sight hoods, then they began putting them on there at the factory, the sight hoods can be taken off, and some took them off, some added them onto their rifles.

but to yea.... hog wash

98 front site hoods from Isreal?

Any of the Isreali front site hoods that I've seen were held on with 4 screws to stop them from being lost. There are a couple of different style front hoods or protectors, on German marked rifles, that were in use, maybe several different types. I have two open style stamped protectors that came out of a fresh crate, both marke BYF 44 with all matching numbers and a couple of hooded styles that are some sort of spring steel, both are Czek, with all matching numbers. bearhunter
