q1.... my isreali k98 ( 7.62 cal. has finger grooves in the forestock, did this happen when isreali re --barreled/chambered the gun to 7.62/308, or were some of these ww2 german rifles issued with finger grooves in the forstock section IN ww2 / by german forces ?

q2 .... my isreali k98 will not accept /use 308 cal stripper clips , did the isrealis us the ORIGINAL 8mm clips? AND / or .........

q3 ....WOULD IT BE A BIG JOB TO ALTER the clip feed on the action to use 308 5 shot clips.

thanks nuff said, all comments welcomed.

8x57 and 7.62x51 have the same diameter case head so they likely used standard 8x57 chargers. Just buy some of those.

I use 8mm strippers in my Israeli K98 and it works fine.

As far as I know, the beech stocks with the finger grooves are Israeli replacement stocks. The German ones would have been solid laminate or walnut stocks if it was an early one. Some of the pre-K98 Mausers had a finger groove but none of the wartime K98's.

I have to use the 8mm stripers also and they work great. I put a WW2 german stock on mine with the metal but plate and wow it kicks like a mule:eek: I might just put the rubber pad stock back on.The only problem with mine is it is hard to open the bolt after each shot so I think my head space might be out:confused:

Stripper clip suggestion

.. Just a thought, but would the Canadian Military "stripper clips" from the C1 work ? If so, they'd probably be fairly easy to come by and a lot cheaper than the original 8x57 ones ? ..... David K. l
