I have a kriegsmodell and I always assumed it was worth less than the standard k-98 because of the manufacturing shortcuts and cruder finish. I recently decided to check its value, and the only two with prices that came up in a search were sold (not asking) for US $ 2250 and 2650. Over $3000 cdn. Is the kriegsmodell that much rarer than the normal k-98? Or am I out of date? Are all k-98s worth that kind of money now? Or did I just by chance find two crazy buyers?

Honest matching 100% correct K98ks have definitely been passed 2k Canadian for some time now. The glut of yugo and russian captures has filled the lower price point market and driven the real deals way up.
I'd never pay anywhere near that (not being super interested in collecting them) but guys that are serious haven't stopped buying.

The shortcuts and finish have nothing to do with collector value. Condition and originality are important, as is scarcity.

Consider the VK98. Finish and shortcuts abound, but value is extremely high.

Post details and photos. I have a good late war collection and can tell you exactly what you have, and what it’s worth.

There’s some of mine I know I’d get $3k for. Others less. Some early ones more. This is assuming yours is perfect with no issues, in collectible condition.
