Gentlemen: I just ordered a "Russian Capture" K98 from my local dealer. It is a K 98 Mauser 8mm chambering. It has no sling or cleaning rod. I assume these guns were captured when the German 5th (?) army failed in Russia during WW 2. Can anyone enlighten me on this type of rifle? Will any K98 sling or cleaning rod fit it? If so where would a guy find these accessories? Thanks for any help.

Darryl

Hey guys I did a serach and found out all I needed. saves the mauser guys from answering my questions twice....

it was the german 6th army

and likely NO

the commies took berlin so from berlin east to stalingrad it may have come from
some say captured upwards of 12 million k98's

remember when the germans surrendured they turned in thier weapons

my grandfather saw piles the size of garages of turned in k98's and not too far away a pile of equal amount of the bolts

any sling will fit if your was a late war stock it may not take a cleaning rod

it will also be missing the front sight hood but if early or late war may not have had one

the capture screws on the trigger group are also missing not really needed through

Whether a gun was taken from a dead german, or surrendered to an NKVD policeman in 1947 Poland, it's still a generic "RC". Most werent; captures at all, despite the "Russian Capture" label. "end of war surrendered rifle" is the most likely thing, but it doesn't sound as cool.

There are two types of cleaning rod, 10 and 12 inch. Early stocks (mostly walnut) typically took the 10 inch and the later (laminate) took the 12 inch rod.
Any K98 sling should fit it, repro or not.
