Looking at getting neck turning equipment.

I have decided to get either:

Sinclair Premium Neck Turning Tool (Without Handle, I don't like the way they have designed these)
Sinclair Expander Body Die and 2 Mandrels (A 6mm and a 6.5mm Mandrel)
Total will be around $180 US

or

K & M Microadjustable Case Neck Turning Tool (With Handle, Shellholder. Looks like a decent design compared to the hokey Sinclair Handle/Holder)
K & M Expandiron and Adapter with 3 Expanders (22, 6mm and 6.5mm)
Total will be around $120 US

Any first hand experience with the K&M stuff?

I have used Sinclairs model 3000 Neck Turner and also the Expander Die, so I was hoping to hear about the K&M stuff.

I have been using the K&M unit for years and prefer the extra fine compound screw adjustments that allows very fine adjustments in both directions in and out. They are rugged and have been around for years also good people to deal with.

X2 on the K&M. I use my drill on the slowest gear rather than the handle that came with it. Makes easy work of neck turning with a drill.

I gather that the top portion comes off the handle to be used in a drill? This was the conclusion I had come to when reading up on it at K&M site.

If you go on the benchrest forums it seems K&M is the most popular, although a good friend swears by the sinclair tool, and his reloading is meticulous.

If both are equally as good, and the $60 price difference is the only factor here, then it seems the choice is a no brainer.

I will peruse the Benchrest forum for more info as well.

Thanx

A friend just got the new Sinclair turner and is overjoyed with it. We have been using two types of old Sinclair turners and a K&M. The K&M was way better than the old Sinclairs for fine adjustment but the cutter was alot smaller. He says the new Sinclair is better than the K&M and light years ahead of the old Sinclairs. Easier to adjust depth of cut. He got the carbide mandrels as well. Says the brass spins on them better than the stainless mandrels.

We use the K&M case holder in a cordless drill which works great.

Good luck

I've used both, and agree with bigbull. It's one of those rare times when you pay less and get more.
