K22 -mod17

hey not completely familiar with this model of S&W. are all model 17's a K frame .22? I see some advertised as K22's others as Mod 17 . If there's a difference what are the different characteristics?

Same gun. S &W introduced a new nomenclature some time ago, so an older one is a K-22 and a newer one is a M17.

All K frames. S&W only started using Model numbers in late 1957. Before that what became the Model 17 was known as the "K-22 Masterpiece". Many people still use this name for these guns. The K frame chambered in .38 spl was the "K-38 Target Masterpiece". That became the Model 14.

I still think the K22/ K38's are nicer guns than the newer 17,14, as a rule the only difference is the finish, pin barrels, resesded chambers, and the newer model 17 is full lug, early ones did not have that, I could be missing something, you s-w guys?
