I finally managed to find some 7.5x55 brass (one bag only, though :(), got some loads made up and got out to the range with my new to me K31.

First, the rifle:

I made up some loads using PRVI 150gr FMJ and 168gr Amax bullets and IMR4064 powder. Brass was Norma.

A great way to start the day, the sighter at 50yds just to see if POI was anywhere close. It was 3 rounds of light charges under the 150gr FMJ bullet:

I could have just quit right there! :D

All of the remaining groups were shot at 100yds with the issue sights using a front rest and tail bag. The black is 5.31" in diameter.

The 4 charge weights tested with the 150gr FMJ bullets:

It looks like 45.0gr of 4064 will require more investigation. That group measured at 1.25", about as good as my fuzzy eyes are ever going to manage with the issue open sights.

Now the 168gr Amax's:

Best group here was 1.38" with 42.0gr of 4064.

I will be getting a bolt on scope mount to let me use optics for the remaining load development, then it will be back to irons for regular shooting.

The rifle had a very decent trigger for a milsurp and was very smooth operating. I understand why they are held in such high regard, it is a superb piece of equipment with a well-fitted, precision feel to it.

to be honest, I would never trust open sites and sandbags for load development at 100 yards. But that could be just me. Nice rifle, love the K31s!

Me neither, especially with my eyes doing the aiming. Hence, the need for the scope mount to allow optics for the real development work. This was simply a test drive and first time at the range to see what it would do. I was very pleasantly surprised with the results overall. I am currently limited to 100yds, which is too close to be really sure of the results, but it will have to do until I can get set up at 200yds or 300yds with glass on it.

Ohhh, you will want the diopter set too along with the scope mount :)

I have been talking to diopter and am likely to get a set when I get the scope mount. I really like aperture sights and the rifle looks like it will shoot well enough to justify them. Nice rifle you have there.

They can be habit forming.

That's very good shooting with open sights...

I love this Swiss K31 rifles; They are on the top of the surplus rifle list.

One of our members did this at 200yds with GP11 and the W&F Swiss diopter.

She was pleased she didn't pull off too many shots.

Very nice!
I love mil-sup. Been thinking about a k31 for a couple of years but wasn't sure about the action.( plus the lack of ammo ) now that i'm reloading i think i'll pick one up. My swed husky 38 is still my first love though.

Will have an extra Swiss products K31 Left Hand Operating rod extra for sale along with a number of alum clamp-on scope mounts and a bi-pod adapter.

Tradeex will get a few of the scope mounts for those that have already asked Tradeex for them.
It should all be in customs at the moment.
